Count me in for sure, I've been itching to run again this Year, Did not make any events last Year or run for that fact so I really need to get out this Year for sure.
I have been checking out a few places other that that Milner area, Not that its a bad place but I want something smoother and an area that we have or could have more traffic, meaning an area that people may actually stop and check us out, to potentially getting noticed and eventually being able to set up a proper official track or at least lager groups and events...
Ill email you shortly with a few location ideas and I will continue to get permission from the land owners to see if there could be possible interests...
Cheers and Ill get back to you very soon cause I think together we can get this ball rolling...

Hey Rob, as of right now, i have to places in mind (im not sure if it will work). One place is at a school, White Haven JRPS and ther other place is the parking lot outside of national sports/old nofrills. As for the school, its got a pretty big pavement but there might be a little debris/rocks on ground. As for the parking lot, i dont rmb how smooth the surface is, but the area is pretty big.
Cheers,
Herbert
Ive been using google maps when im not in my car, nice thing about google maps is that you can go right down to street view and look around as first person view.
ive spotted f new areas and will be taking a drive this week to check them out a little better.
at least google maps have updated there maps recently so the ground surface should have not changed much.
We'll have to start posting this email onto the forum and allow people to start viewing it and joining in.. I think all together we can find something and get the ball rolling..

Hello guys! As you can read from the original post by Rob (aka the email between both of us), we are planing on having some meets in 2010. We have been looking at a few areas. What do you guys think of Pavement at White Haven JRPS or Parking Lot at National Sports. Please suggest other areas so that Rob and I may have a look at them. Tell us about theses areas so others can know as well. We hope to get this going in April (unfortunately, i wont be in Toronto until the end of April. However, I hope that we can get this started and have frequent meets in Scarborough! (i barely see meets around the area, all of them are either in durham or barrie) So lets work together and we can get some r/c meets. 1/10 electric or nitro are welcome.

As for scales to run, I would like to open the invite to most scales, 1/16, 1/10, 1/8 and modified off road to street.
I will be running all scales except for 1/5.
I couple of places i have seen which look pretty good for two reasons, the first one is due to the fact that there is no one around to bother by the noise and that during weekends its empty this would be a large multi parking lot east of Rodick rd and Yorkteck this is located north of hwy 407 and west of Warden, simple enough to find hit it up on google maps.
Second location still needs a little work on permission from the local retailers which i will be working on very soon.
Location is just south of Rona which is found on Midland and McNicoll ave.
This location has newly paved surface and being that many other rc tracks are somewhat sponsored by hardware stores, we may be able to get this place to agree as well, Fun thing is that we could get a few spectators too and allow our running to grow.
If we are to run on the weekends I have obtained approval by my work place to use that parking lot, Its location is 480 Gordon Baker Rd, South of Steeles and West of Victoria Park.
I will have pics of the areas posted shortly, but for the time being they can be found on google maps.
Cheers

oh ya thats awesome, i didnt know u also welcome other scales (excellent choice). Excellent work there with Rodick rd and Yorkteck as its close to First Markham place (I see that there are a few people that are into r/c in markham/north york). As for Rona, its true that alot of clubs are sponsored by Rona (such as DRCRC) so we might be able to contact them. And your work place's parking lot is definitely a good start.
Sorry for letting you do most of the work as im still finishing my term at UW (sigh.. wont be done tile April 23rd last exam). Ill catch up once im back in Toronto
Again Greate Work!

I'm in, I went to the church a bunch of times last year and nobody ever showed up. :(
I'll keep and eye out for new asphalt. Me and a few buddies have been running beside the new Zellers/old Rona at Warden and Eglington. With that Rona being closed there's not to much traffic and no store owners to complain.
Either way I'm in and prolly 4 other guys to.

Yorkland Rd and Consumers Rd is a write off, the surface is too rough and there are parking gates so no not a good place for smaller scale racing.
Well being that Friday 2nd of April will be a holiday and the weather is going to be good and hot, why dont we all put our heads together and pick a place for a first run, Being that its a holiday we would have an option to run anywhere we want, no store would be open so we would have the chance to run at a new facility with new pavement.
If any of you viewers know of anywhere do please post it and then we can make arrangements to meet.
I have a small portable bbq for dogs and etc..
I have markers, cones, rings etc.... Still looking around for a gas leaf blower to clean the grounds as its quicker than a broom.
Any other easy transportable items are welcome,
We have 4 days to get this in order so lets see what we can come up with,
First task, find a location and time of event
make a list of people that wiill be attending
supplies that are included or needed.
and lets rock.

Well drove 100 km within the local area and to tell you the truth, there are two spots that are just awesome, Really really nice.
One of the areas was the posted pic of Rodick rd and Yorkteck, this place is really big, nice thing is that is smooth surface no many hill transitions one single man holes per lot and easily out of the way, huge area to build really fast and technical tracks for both 1/10 and 1/8 scale.
There is also another smaller place but may be busy during the weekends as is looks to be a convention / religion center. I will re-chech it and get some aerial shots of it, Its around 14th and Kennedy. But the Rodick rd and Yorkteck is really a great place and I hope that its not too far out of evberyones way.
Myself Im located in Scarborough, Warden and Finch area so if carpool is required then stuff can be worked out,.
Cheers and good night...

I have just sent a email to Rona sponsorship directory and Hopefully we may hear back from them.
I will keep you posted on all updates and or if a meeting is to be scheduled.
Letter is as follows:
Good day Rona team.
I would like to take a minute of your time in regards to a special request, As you may or may not know, There are a few home improvement centres across the GTA that have opened there doors to sponsorship for remote control racing on there lot during the weekends.
This participation by the home improvement centres allow the public to bring there vehicles to the parking lot at a designated area and race there vehicles.
As you may not be aware but there is a large group of people they not only enjoy the thrill of racing but also enjoy being spectators.
For the past 5 Years within GTA the world of hobby remote control vehicles has rapidly grown into a family sport. Budgets for family sport enthusiasts have set some limitations in regards to recreational fun time, however many have been introduced to racing and remote control sports, This increasing popular pass time has now shown huge potential for everyone to profit from it.
As I would like to keep this short for a intro, this is where we are looking for sponsorship from you and the location 3750 Midland Scarborough ON, M1V 4V3.
We would like to have your permission to set up a short racing track on the pavement at an area that is not subject to much traffic yet still allowing people to visually see the action at the same time keeping safe from traffic going and coming from your centre.
We would be purchasing building and maintenance materials from this location such as wood and cleaning products and ground keeping products.
We are not asking for anything from Rona Canada other than allowing us to build a temporary track on the days that we would have scheduled events. We would however ask for permission to store the products and material that we use to build the track at your facility. The products that we would be using would consist of strips of wood which would include 1" thick by 4" wide by 12' long. This would be used for side walls of the track, Measurements are still on the drawing board as to how many pieces will be required. The overall track size would be approximately 50' by 80' This would be marked off with side walls and a outer wall that would keep the vehicles in and would be a layout for a race track. The vehicles that would be running on it would be power by both electric and or nitro methane ( remote control racing fuel ) the sizes of the vehicles would be sorted by class which would vary from 30mm to 80mm long cars. Each vehicle is equipped with safety features that would not allow the vehicle to loose control and or radio frequency contact. The classes would also be sorted out by not only size but by overall experience, this would allow all to enjoy the service that you are offering. All products and vehicles would be each and everyone responsibility and under no liability by Rona, They would need to meet my general safety standards and no inappropriate behaviour would be tolerated. This whole service that we want to offer is for the general public that enjoy RC to come out and enjoy team sports, to enjoy the thrill of competition and to be able to do it in a safe and controlled environment.
If you are interested in learning a little more and would need field layout Please feel free to contact me via email or at my home number.
If you wish for us to have a meeting in person please feel free to contact me and we can schedule up the time that is convenient for both of us.
Thanks again for your time and interest

Rodick rd and Yorkteck rd definitely sounds like a good place, because it can actually track people's attention (located behind First Markham Place, which operates on holidays and weekends as its a Chinese Mall). The only problem is the permission. It seems like its an open parking lot but we are not sure who owns it and we might require permission. I live in the Agincourt neighborhood and so it depends if my parents will have time to give me a ride or if they let me use the car. So as for April 2nd, plans changed and now i might be able to show up depending on bus schedule back to Toronto.
Preference:
location - Rodick rd and Yorkteck rd Parking lot
Time: 1-4/5 pm
Class: 1/10 scale electric touring TA05ver2

I doubt that this place gets used up by clients for the First Markham place as its still a good walk away. Its more likely to be used by the buildings that are just north of it which seam to be offices or a folks home..
Again seams to be just you and I Resound that have been posting so unless we get a few more included I wouldn't make a special bus trip as it would not be worth all that time.
As I said, I have contacted Rona Canada for sponsorship through there contact email however will be communicating directly with this Rona location to see if we can get the ball rolling. So yes I know many of us are very eager to run but its still very early and lets focus on doing it right.
Cheers

If approval goes through, here would be the layout area for the track(s) I would be requesting both short truck offroad track ( no huge jumps ) but more or less a auto corss track and a onroad technical 1/10 1/8 street track.
Lets keep the fingers crossed and hope that Roana Canada and Rona Midland would grant this area and support our addiction to RC racing.
Resound

Ya, lets just hope that the area is granted because the location is definitely better than Parking lot behind First Markham Place. In addition, its a more 'organized' meet. So I assume that event on April 2nd wont happen unless we can get minimum of 4-5 people.

1/8 Ofna Pro modified two speed
1/10 Team Magic G4S with LPR.12Z spec IV
1/16 Micro street brushless Lipo
I will be looking at a HPI sprint 2 Flux to be electric powered 1/10 scale for you guys...
But since I have been running my DM-One well its hard to go back to anything else....LOL

Here is also another suggestion for a short fast technical track, The pictures does not do any justice as it was newly paved last year 2009.
Its a open to public parking and its so rare i have ever seen someone in this area. I pass by on a daily basis on my way to work, I have ran there is a 1/10 scale car and it was ample of room to open it up.
This could be a temp place that is more centred and within Scarborough itself. There are a few locations in that area to get a bite to eat and drinks etc....
Location: Pharmacy and McNicoll

In addition, i need some suggestion. Whats a good store to get Tamiya Parts (cheap and 'good' services). Ive been to Advance Hobbies, they have very nice staff but the price is pretty high. Asking this cuz im planning on doing some upgrades with my ta05 lol.
nitroheli
03-30-2010, 11:35 AM
All depends on what you need and how far your willing to travel.
you could always pay cash with Advance and chat with the owner for some assistance as long as you buy there often and in large qty....
Other than that, I always stick with my one and only place... AJ Hobbies. Arden and I go way back and well not only is service great but once you get in and start volume orders then you may be able to negotiate price too.
Best thing to do is grab your prices from other Canadian retailers and use this as a ref point if your stores are too high... You can talk pricing if you have some proof in your hands....
Its not always about pricing, its more about who has what in stock at the time you need it..
But if you are to place a large qty of pieces on order, I suggest that you go through Arden at Advance hobbies... You can use me as a ref. Just make sure to pay cash and let him know that I sent you to him cause he would assist you. Again It may take some time so don't expect any awesome deals on your first purchase, You have to build a constant order system with him....
Cheers

friday 11am is a little too early for me.
Right now my 8.5T motor has the rotor stuck somehow last time I used it so I'd have to install the 21.5T I was saving up for VTA class. and that would be turtle slow... So I might as well buy some drift tires since its not gonna be exciting

How many battery packs are you guys gonna be bringing?

Yes we had some fun laps together as a group, much better when we have more people, hopefully we can get a good group next weekend. Ill work on a track design that will be equal to both nitro and electric runners. The track will consist a few short cuts for the electric runners that are not running brushless lipo''s and the nitro guys like myself will have to get a little quicker in order to do a full track lap and keep up with the rest at the same time....
By all means, if any of you know of places that are smooth running surfaces and in the area jot them down.
Im open to anywhere and love the company...

Oh and a quick note... I cant recall who said it but one of you stated you have some long large diameter rope, if you could bring some that would also be good.
Anyone who has brushes that would be good too, the leaf blower is ok but between heats a brush would be good...
If you recall where the rope can be purchased other than homedepot due to high costs do let us know, Maybe everyone can pitch in a pick some up.
As you saw the items I had, now think how great it would be if everyone brought some track stuff it would be just awesome...
I will also keep you all posted on any updates I get in regards to sponsorship from Midland Rona center,...

The Rona track sponsorship request fell through, Even if they had shown some interest in the planning and events they can not and will not grant permission for us to run weekend events on the parking lot at Rona McNicoll and Midland location.
So either we continue to request permission at other locations for sponsorship or we end up doing like what most guys do and run in secret until we are caught and forced to move..
This coming weekend looks to be some what sunny but a little chilly. However the Weather man is never right LOL... I guess we will keep in touch as the week progresses and confirm just before the end of the week as to who is going where...

should we tried to make a standard so that everyone can build accordingly?
Say we make Blah company blah pattern blah compound the standard.
If I need to purchase new set of tires, I would just get the club standard instead of trying to diviate.
I really like RCGT, but the majority rules I guess.
My suggestion:
21.5 or 17.5 motor
any realistic body (no stratus, dna3 etc)
some sort of tire limit (X pattern d compound?)
Please voice your opinion on having a base to standardize equipment?
We could have much closer racing I think, even though its still fun. I am not sure how far people's cars were apart interms of speed and grip since I wasnt able to make it last time.

Super_Steve, Not that its a bad idea but I think the first thing we need to do is to try and find a place that is central to everyone where people will be consistent and show for the day. right now we had it going on the right track and we had a few that showed up on the first run, then well its died out and no show after that, This is not a way for a group to get serious within the Scarborough region and well it could make potential future track supporters loose interest, thus why maybe there is not an official track in Scarborough, Im not trying to diss this post and I have not yet given up on RC racing, cause its in the blood...
Nothing more than i would want is a official track in Scarborough and I continue to find something that would just be that ultimate wow factor that we all look for...
In regards to standardizing the motors and wheel and etc,, well we might as well call it Tamiya 2 club... I think that once people come out of the bushes and actually start showing up to meets and pass the word around we may be able to get enough people that can run within each others level, Myself I do not have a racing electric car and well right now I ran out and got myself a couple of 1/5 gassers cause the group of guys in Markham seam to have it well layout and consistent in regards to weekly meets.
Nothing more that i would love to run both groups but my main goal is to run... so until
some of the local guys start to get a little more serious and willing to run, ill just have to play where the guys play and right now its the 1/5..
Cheers and do keep posting...
It just bugs me that I have so many people that had read this post but yet too shy to post on here and or a small intro...
LET US KNOW YOUR OUT THERE AND ANY INPUT IS WELCOME>>>

Being that I mentioned 1/5 scale, i thought I would also share this just in case any of you show also some interest in joining the dark side... uh mean 1/5 scale side....LOL
There is a new place in town , ok more or less in the GTA that offer 1/5 scale awesome deals on big bad block gassers...
This product line that this guy is using for Canadian market is Red Cat Racing
So if any one you within Scarborough region that want a big scale racer but want to keep the budget withing living standards you shoud check this place out...
Best thing about the service is that you dont have to run around and order through USA suppliers. Its a local guy.... LOL Woohoo...
I have been dealing with this place now and so far Im very pleased with both lead time and pricing... Makes buying my replacements a whole lot less frustrating......

anyone of you that shows interest and or who buys a vehicle post it here and then we can all start getting the group up larger and also go run with the big boys up in Markham region...

I would love to show up, but unfortunately I won't be back until end of April. It's true that in order to get these meets running, people will have to show up more often, but I do understand that many people have different activities planned for the weekends (like myself, i didn't show up for past week). So I hope that people can check on this forum more often. In fact, for the next meet, we can get some sort of contact information from each person, emails or phone number or neither if you don't feel comfortable sharing the information.
As for the location, i think pharcyed did mention something about zellers parking lot? or the parking lot of the company that he worked for? Maybe we can discuss what the best location in our next meet or possible on the forum.

Just to give you all a quick heads up, At the Pharmacy ad McNicoll location looks like there will be some construction going on, As i drover by it this morn I saw huge skids of pipes and some other materials so I can be on teh safe side and say that this place may be out for some time but will keep you posted, From what im guessing I think they are planning to expand this lot as during Friday nights and weekend nights it becomes packed to the brim of cars.. So if they expand it and well place again new ashphalt well all I could say is Woohoo !!!
So for the time being, I think we need to find a new location, I do know if a nice place also in Markham which is Kennedy and 14th area, Its raised land and new black ashpault, This is a nice place as I had ran there many times with the Nitro's....
But do feed your input to any other areas..
Cheers

Hi Rob,
I just got into 1/5 scale last year or so? Since the Baja is very loud, I run where ever there is open space with minimal houses and people, just to be safe and to cause as little noise and trouble as possible. Later tonight, I will be heading to Pickering to run my Baja and also be flying my planes!
I have yet to check out the Markham Road/Hwy 7 area group. Would like to check it out one day. As mentioned, I am full on the weekends, so, the only time I have is any spare time on some weeknights! Gotta work to pay for the RC parts!

Im not too sure if you guys are meeting this coming week April 16-18. But for sure we should have one on April 24th.
I assume most people wont be free in the morning(late morning) or in the afternoon on a saturday. So im guess we will have a meet on the 24th near night time? We have two problems to figure out before the 24th.
Location - As Rob mentioned, theres some construction going on at Pharmacy and McNicoll Ave Parking lot (where our first meet happened). In addition, even if there was no construction, considering that its at night time, lighting would be a problem.
To be short, if no construction and its day time, meet will be at Pharmacy and McNicoll. Else we will need new location with lighting (and obviously smooth surface)
Here is a list that ill do some update on (people will be the ones who showed up last meet/posted before):
Date: April 24th
Time: 1-5pm in between (lets vote and see what time everyone prefers)
Location Midland and Mcnicoll plazas
People:
- Herbert
- Rob
- Sean
- Dave (Sean, if you can ask him, that will be great)
- Super_steve (available only after 6:30pm)
- stock5efe (prefer daytime)
- evofreak(not sure)
-barok (not sure)
Let me know if you are interested, ill add you to the list

As I stated earlier, that current location McNicoll and Pharmacy is out of the question, its full of debris from the construction that is happening down that road. there is dirt and all sorts of garbage all over that lot..
So no choice we will have to find another place since the lot will not be cleaned up for some time,, they are working on Pharmacy all the way up from that lot....
Being that most of you are south of Finch ave I suggest we find somewhere around that area unless you want to head up to Kennedy and 14th.... There is a Tim's just before the train bridge on kennedy and 14th ave, you turn on that Tim Hortons road and travel 150meters west, you will find a conference centre or a building, there is a step up of grass and well that makes a pretty good overview of the lot.
Other than that, there is a full empty lot that was paved 1.5 Years ago which can be found on McNicoll and just west of Midland.. There is a Rona and a new plaza the lot is in that plaza area and is well laid out and lights, but being that the plaza is still not yet occupied im not sure if the lights go on at night.. ill take a drive one night this evening and see how the condition is and what it looks like at night time....
If any of you need specs and info on how to make LED light kits that work off of a square 9v battery just shoot me a note and ill tell you what you need and where to get it, its a simple task and well works great..

If you wish to play a little off road.
Kids-town is a public site, kind of like a picnic park, there are always guys around, ive been buy when people have been bashing etc....
I hope to head there this weekend with my son to hit few jumps....
Other that there, i found another neat little area that would offer both jumps, a small track with some serious climbing..lol
this is on the new street that connects Warden and Kennedy which is just north of hwy 407.
Its just before the underpass of the train tracks, if going that ways towards kennedy road you look to your right you will see a large grass hill but the other side of it has been dug away and well there is a large somewhat of a dirt flat area and then there are a few truck loads of dirt that create a kind of plateau.
But Birchmount and McNicoll is also a great spot being close, but its mainly grass and dirt.. but one can easily make a decent track too...

05-15-2010, 09:07 PM
The pit in Barrie was right beside my friends house, intersection on google map would be.
Big Bay point Rd and Royal Parkside dr. go to the end of Royal Parkside Dr and it will be behind the park you see, walk through the bushes and there it is... Not bad of a place enough to open up the Baja for a long time.... plus there are nice sandy hills and a few wicked jumps, Had the baja hitting 6 foot airs... Pretty rock solid buggy....
Being that your in the North York. Im sure there are a few good places also just east of the hwy 404 and north of Elgin mills and between 19th.... Should take a small drive and see what that area is like, its all new commercial construction zone, im sure there are a few beating places around there...
Here is scarbough area, the closes decent place i found would be at an area called L'amoreaux park south, just south of Mc Nicoll and on Birchmount. You will see a water park splash pad, well just south of that 50 meters you will see a picnic area and a few good dirt hills and well thats a fun quick local area to hit a few jumps, I have not yet been there this Year, when i do go i bring a shovel and fine tune the area so well you would know when i had my fun if you ever go... it would be laid out nicely...

I found a place that is, i would say at least to me, AMAZING. Its at 7030 Woodbine Ave. I took so pictures, its got a wide area and a platform (got stairs as well). If you find the ground to be too rough, u can always racing on the platform.

even that I had found a supplier for 4" tubing at around .50 a foot which is awesome prices !!!
Thus why it brought me to wanting to test a abc plastic blind from a retail or wholeseller !!
Would not be that hard to duplicate the rail system as long as they can withstand a few beatings and allow cars to run them over without exploding into bits... that is why i want to test them,,, Maybe tomorrow evening ill take a small trip to blids to go and see what they have as options and get a few quotes too...

Alrite, so i dont know how rob's inspection of the area went. But for now, I will most likely show up(if no overtime). However, I might be a little late due to busing and carrying my 1/10 rc. Rob said hes ok around 7pm. I gave sean a call and he said hes not sure yet. Jiver may show up depending on the situation. Rob's co-workers may show up again depending on the situation.
Rob , since you are the closest. I was thinking, if you don't mind, txt me around that time and tell me if event is rolling. Ill try to get there on time, but if its not happening cuz of not enough people, then i don't want to waste a token. So i would appreciate it if i get some sort of notice via txt if its not happening. # is 5197293829.

OK guys, i went there right after work to get there which was only 3 blocks from my work place took me around 30 mins, just crazy traffic, I normally head south to go home, no traffic.. lol
So being said this yes it was 5pm and it was as full as your mid noon time due to many buildings,,, I would have to say that around 7pm the lot should be empty but i did not get a chance to check it out at that time...
I dont mind showing up aswell being is only 5 k's away from my place.
So if i hear from you this evening stating that you will not show then ill be there for 7pm, that would at least give us just under 2 hours of run time. At least that is enough to check it out and hit a few hot laps...
We could always head over to the Rona location found on Midland and McNicoll if it gets too dark too fast... thats only a few mins drive away and there are lights there....
So place your posts, your responses and lets see what happens...
Cheers

well at least we had a total of 5 cars running, Decided to run on the upper parking level which was a real smooth surface, had a lot of transitions for weight shift which gave it that extra fight to stay up front for all of us.
Was a great run, looking forward to running again with you crazy guys...

Just got home from running at Richmond Greens.
I have some good news, the park has a area of the lot blocked off strictly for running RC's!!! They even have permission from the city to be there!! I think we might be able to make this our new permanent home. The gate to the lot is locked at 11pm and it's lit!! I met 3 guys there tonight and each of them were running brushless and nitro. Nice spot for racing, could use a sweep but no cracks or high spots. They didn't have a track set up but I'm sure we could take care of that....
I think this might be a chance to set up actual scheduled races for us.
I'm going back there on Thursday night around 6pm who's in?

Costco at Warden and Ellesmere has brand new pavement and should most likely be closed on Thursday allowing us to have the place to our selves. Don't think we could make it a regular place because there are some homes close by (nitro noise) but one day couldn't hurt.
Just a thought
Friday and Saturday during the day are now out for me. Could prolly make an evening though.
