OLD PRAIRIE RED NECK

Does anyone remember the Hobby Lobby Tele Sport? Will be picking up a partly complete kit tomorow with the idea of finnishing it sometime. Used to be of the impression that it was just a low wing version of the Telemaster but it doesn't seem to resemble it in any way!
Anyone built or flown this old bird?

I had one ...it was a Nice plane ... it had a semi-symmetrical wing, and will fly on any good 60-90 glow or equivalent ... It flew much like a super sportster...it was capable of sport aerobatics and slowed down nice to land
The build was fun , and way over engineered compared to modern designs , should be able to build it much lighter than mine was... Enjoy !

Thanks for the reply, Hammer. Not sure how old this kit is but would guess 30 years or more. Will finnish it up & try it out.

It was a kit sold by Hobby Lobby. I remember a review of it in RC Reports. As I recall they were not too impressed with the kit. Subsequently, HL cancelled their ads. I think I may have the mag somewhere and will see if I can find the review article.
I think it will make a nice flying plane and I like the looks of it.
It is a bit like a low winged Telemaster you mentioned. That was a plan by Dick Tichenor in RCM called the RCM Sportster 40.

Hey! DanM2 - good to hear from you again! Thought I had scared you away with all my questions!
Yes, it would be interesting to see the original article! No rush though as I missed my connection to get the kit. It's still waiting for me at my brother's place when ever our schedules match up again.
Thanks Merv
Just looked up that link, Dan, plan#871 Funster 40, by Dick Tichenor. I think that's the one you mean. Very close but the one I'm getting has tapered wings with round tips.

Here is the box, radio & engine. Bit of a story behind the radio. Well, bit of a story behind the whole project!

Thanx for the pix. That radio might be of interest to the folks who always place ads in the MAAC mag for vintage systems. That K&B 61 looks like it is in pristine shape. Does it feel like it was stored with oil etc.? Clarence Lee used to, and may still, hop these up.
Keep us posted and keep your camera handy.

Engine feels fine. I don't think a "hop up" will be needed as this is not a very big plane.
As for the radio... it has only been in the air once & I would be quite content keep it that way... but the project is a "joint" effort & I am having trouble convincing the other partner that the radio would be better off in the hands of a collector!
Anyone have an idea of it,s worth? It was the first of it's make to enter Canada back in the late 60's. My brother had to send for the schematics & forward it to the government for approval before he could import it into the country! Says he still has the documents to prove it!
He then had to licence it as a citizen's band radio complete with call number.
All that for a very short first flight after which he repaired the plane & never tried it again!

I finally got one of these. I have started a build thread, here is a link to it. Please feel free to post there or if not then here with any advice or tips on building. I haven’t decided on a power plant yet but really looking at either a JBA 56 or SK 70 to 90. What do you think? And one guy in this thread suggested building it lighter; I plan on cutting some holes in it, what else can be done to lighten it up? Here is my build thread. Thank you http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10728461/tm.htm
