The 2012 racing calendar has been posted on the CPPRA web site.

A few notes on the calendar

The Calgary club will host the season opener of racing in the CPPRA with a fun Q500 and fun Electric Formula-1 event the weekend of May 26,27. All pilots with MAAC and qualifying planes are welcome, check out the web site for details.

http://sites.google.com/site/cppradistrict3/calendar2012

If you are interested in racing Q500 (AMA Class 426), or EF1 these are a good place to start. The go fast group will be there but the pace will be suited to new pilots, and new race pilots are welcome.

If you want to race and need encouragement, the EF1 class is a popular starting point, if your not into electric then the Q500 is the entry level event.

For EF1 check out the NMPRA web site for rules and equipment selection.

I heard by the grape vine that Edmonton was restarting their Monday night racing series as well, this time they are moving to the EF1 platform, anyone from Edmonton out there to confirm?

It's good to see all of the Pylon activity in the recent MAAC mag, as I recall three separate sections were related to Pylon, with emphasis on electric events... wow, this is getting some traction.

Sweet V Q40

Here's a picture of my latest Q40. The plane is a Sweet V, fully made in the mold Carbon Fibre, F-Glass, Balsa and epoxy composite.

This plane is available from Darrol Cady; http://www.darrolcady.com/index.htm

A Canadian source for racing goodies is Harold Sattler; http://www.hmracinginc.com/index.php

The plane was actually rebuilt after a crash last year that broke the fuse in half, the plane went in with minimal radio control under no power (fail safe).

The plane was painted with Auto AirColor water based acrylic and finished with 2K polyurethane.

Calgary Club 20 and EF1 racing season ends.

FYI
The results are in from the winter racing series held in Calgary every year.

1st. Roy Andrassy; Club 20
2nd. Murry Hamula; EF1
3rd. Randy Smith; EF1

Calgary (CMPRA) has been doing winter racing for probably over 30 years various classes from .049, House of Balsa T6 Texans, Club 20 and now Electric Formula One. They have developed a very efficient way to run a race with minimal dedicated help. The current racing is mixed series, Club 20 and EF1 and is run often with only one dedicated helper (for number 1 pylon), typical turnout is 6 - 12 pilots, it seems racing is done if the winds are less than gale force and the temperature is better than -10C. I estimate that over one hundred and fifty rounds were run over the winter this year.

The EF1 are starting to dominate the series (in numbers not speed), and may take over in years to come.

The winter racing allows the Calgary go really fast group to be ready for the National Point series that starts in June 2 this year in Edmonton.

Howie

Thanks for the link, I heard Edmonton was starting up some club racing, is this the same as the Monday night group.. Kevin U and company? If this gets going I may take a plane with me the next visit for work on a Monday.

The Fun Q500 and EF1 race in Calgary has room for lots of pilots, last year we saw folks from Edmonton and Saskatoon attend. This year some folks from the states may be up as well for either 426 (Q500) or EF1. This is a great event to get into the district competition with lots of good times. Join us if you can and advise others.

Kevin

We are holding an introductary to E F1 racing at Orangeville this Sunday, looks like we may have 8 pilots show up, this is just a fun and training event, should be a lot of fun. Over half of the pilots have never raced or have flown around themselfs, should be interesting.

Great news Ken, I just saw this posting. I was actually in Ontario 2 weeks ago, I will need to keep and eye open for your next race, I get there often and perhaps I could make a race if by chance trips and races coincide.

How did the race go?

Kevin We just practiced and are helping some of the new guys fly the pylon course, although there was a few two planes flying mixing it up, just the old pylon guys.
My plan is to just have the fun and practice this year and promote F1.

Randy Smith the MAAC Pylon Committee chairman hosted a blog to cover the many days of racing. I have attached Randy's Blog page link, it also is linked to pictures and video.
