Special Notice PLEASE NOTE DATE CHANGE!
Last summer, on fairly short notice, the 2002 Canadian National "Category" Nat's were held in Eastern Canada. In fairness, I believe that the underlying reasons for the short notice had more to do with a failure to get budgeting approval for a "full" Nat's. With time being a major factor, some willing people stepped up and held the Canadian Nationals for Precision Aerobatics. Nice to see it happen and good for them for taking on the challenge! I would definitely prefer a "Category" Nat's somewhere as opposed to no Nat's at all.
As most of you know, we have not had a full Canadian Nat's since the very successful 2000 Vancouver edition (Had a blast!) With the next scheduled Nat's not until 2004 (again in Vancouver), we find ourselves without a "full" Nationals for 2003. As big as our country is, it's hard to imagine that we can't get a host every year. For whatever reasons, be they logistics, manpower, or leadership (someone willing to head up & organize the event) no person(s) or club(s) have, to date, come forward to the MAAC Executive to host a full Nationals in 2003.
In light of these facts, several dedicated, experienced and most importantly, willing people have come together and are now proposing to host the 2003 Canadian National Precision Aerobatics Championships in Princeton, BC. Several hurdles had to be jumped in order to facilitate this event so work has already begun behind the scenes.
To date the following has occurred:
1. The 2003 Nationals proposal for Category (Precision Aerobatics) was presented to the MAAC Executive and it has received their support. This also included a realistic budget (No loss anticipated or expected.)
2. The event sanctioning process is underway with the assistance of newly elected BC Zone Rep. Doug McMillan.
3. Ensured little or no potential conflicts with other scheduled events.
4. Identified & obtained the use of a suitable & proven location.
5. Obtained local community support and involvement.
6. Formed a four (4) person 2003 Category Nats - Precision Aerobatics Committee to oversee all aspects of the competition.
In order to give everyone sufficient notice and an opportunity for all those wishing to attend, I ask you to please "TENTATIVELY" mark your calendars with the:
2003 Canadian National Precision Aerobatics Championships on July 26th & 27th, 2003
at the Princeton Airport, Princeton, BC. All levels will be flown. More news and information on this event will follow, as they become available.
