Edenvale IMAC Contest Report

Hi guys

The contest began on Saturday morning under clear blue skies with a light breeze, and with temperatures in the upper 60`s. Just beautiful weather! By the afternoon it warmed up to the lower 80`s. Twelve enthusiastic Canadian IMAC pilots showed up to fly, with 7 of them being brand new pilots in the Basic class. We also had 1 in Sportsman, 3 in Advanced, and 1 Unlimited pilot.

Being that over half the pilots at the contest were new to IMAC, we decided to concentrate on making their first IMAC experience a good one! We went over the basic sequence in detail, and even had one of the Advanced pilots fly the Basic sequence in a demo flight for all to watch. [Thank you Tony!] As the day went on, you could see all of the Basic pilots starting to improve their flying skills already! All went well for everyone, when late in the day in round 3, when one of my headers let go on my plane, so at that point, I was done and destined to finish third out of three in Advanced. :(

On Sunday morning, the winds picked up quite a bit and with the lack of available judges, we decided to forgo the Unknowns and just do one more round of Knowns. The majority of the pilots were not happy with the strong winds at all, so most decided to sit it out entirely. Advanced flew one more round, and we then decided to call it a day around lunch time, when it became obvious that the winds were here to stay. The scores were finalized, [Thanks Drew!] and the trophies were handed out.

A FANTASTIC selection of prizes were handed out as well! Bisson Custom Mufflers, Petes Models, Sew Busy, Carden Aircraft, Kirbys Kustom Graphics, and MSC Props donated these wonderful prizes, and deserve a huge thank you!! :TU:

Hope to do it again next year! :cheers:

It certainly was a great experience for us first-timers.
We all appreciated all the help that was given, Bob with the stick-plane,
Tony with the demo, Drew on the lap-top, and Mike with all your running
around making sure everything worked as it should! :shock:

It was a fun learning experience that we all enjoyed, and you can be sure
you have some new IMAC'ers hooked! :D

I hope my contest, (July 26/27th Flying Tigers Field, Hamilton), goes as
well, and I hope to see you all there! (shameless plug)

Wow, you're a first timer? and scored 4000! That's some intimidation for someone like me who's thinking of trying to get to an event this summer. I added 7 flights to my Laser this weekend and hopefully by summers end have enough experience and confidence in my abilities to at least try IMAC...........Little Mikey can come out and help me out I'm sure though! :wink: Right Mikey :?:

:idea: You could let me learn on the Wagstaff :!: :shock: :lol:

James;

My score was far from perfect.
It's something called "normalized" score, but I'm not sure how it works.

I'm sure Mike or Bob can explain it better.

Congrats Ron,
I haven't been able to get the time and practice to come out. At Oakville, even though I had paid, still couldn't make it. Hopefully, will try for your event.

Hi Maqsood, thanks!;

I also missed the Oakville contest due to family obligations.

Brian Facey and I only had 3 practice sessions before this, so don't worry about it if you don't get too much chance.
Your first contest will be a great learning experience, and no one gets embarrased!

I hope you can make it to my contest, it will be a good chance to get your feet wet.
