Amazing....no not really. It basically boils down to what do you have to offer them....
To get on Team Futaba, I basically needed to make the Canadian Team and fly in the World Championships....because pattern pilots largely fly Futaba already its really tough to get sponsored with them if you fly pattern.
You need to stick out in whatever it is that you do, if that is pattern, or helis, or IMAC or whatever you need to be out there doing it and doing it lots and well. This usually means travelling to events, or contests, whatever.
First thing you need to do is put together a "resume" of who you are, what you have done, what you are going to do. Then start sending it out to companies....at first you will get ignored but if you keep getting better and are persistent eventually they will stop ignoring you :)
If you are just thinking that oh I will get sponsored so I get free stuff....well then forget it. Firstly you RARELY ever get anything for free, most often its a discount, and sometimes not a very good discount.
IF, and its a big IF you are good enough to get stuff for free, its usually a one time or few time deal and wont last forever.
I have about 8 or 9 different companies sponsoring me at the moment, I have gotten a free plane and other free stuff, but I still pay (although less than everyone else) for the majority of things, and never will I ever be able to quit my job to fly :(
It also helps to be recommended by someone already sponsored by that particular company.

You might think Chad is joking..but realy when he says "why would you want to", he is not kidding
Being sponsered is far from being on the gravy train..its not as nice as everyone else thinks it is all the time when someone thats had some problem adn runs up and starts yelling at you because its going to be all your fault that day:)
Chad must have lots of experience with that being a Futaba users:)

I think it would be great if we could be all sponsered :!: Unfortunatly that is just a wee little bit unrealistic :? I would like to believe that some of the companies JR/Futaba/Airtronics and the list can go on ,have their eyes peeled for up and coming tallent to represent what their company has to offer .We might seem like we are being harsh on you but ,just remember that all those great flyers that are sponsered had to start somewhere .Have you ever thought of going to your local hobby shop for help ?Tell them what your ambitions are and you never know . They just might be willing to help you a little .
