Now that is cool! I really like the simulated wheel pants!!!!!

Oh yeah, the wheels are mounted on "L" shaped aluminum brackets, which screw to a piece of ply I put between the aluminum channel and the coroplast. The pants just screw on to the landing gear brackets!

I hope to finish it up tonight... should knife edge pretty well considering the huge fuse!

Got lazy tonight guys, will have to wait untill tomorrow to install the radio gear. Just vegging out tonight... :)

Besides, its rain for the next three days...the fall weather has set in! :(

The engine looks weird sitting so low and far out - but, from a distance it looks "funny- good" like a cartoon version of the plane!

I hope it flies well, then it will get an R-1 mate! :)

Do you think you could have dropped the fuse lower?

To make it more scale?

well then it would have had to be done in a few parts, and the plane was a low wing...

Damn Jim, its a SPAD!! :)

from 10 feet away you dont even see the engine.... thats my story and I'm sticking to it! :)

Your SPAD looks way cool Andrew!

Don't know how many people have looked at my Das Plas Stick and said. "Why don't you put the tail fin in the centre, it would look more like a real airplane" and thats my exact response " ITS ONLY A SPAD, a piece of plastic sign material on a piece of plastic drain pipe....sheeeeesh its about as far looking from a real airplane as you can get!" LOL...... Just kidding around Jim! But I have had people SERIOUSLY ask me that!

Well I have the "G B Z " ready to rock and roll! I will admit it aint pretty up close but I cant wait to see it up in the air.

They are forcasting rain everyday untill next tuesday though, so it may be a while before I can get some flight reports and pics.. :(

Flight tested after work today! Windy and cold but no rain :)

Lets just say that this thing is a HANDFULL!! It reminds me more of the PBF than of my other PQHOR. Hands off NOT recommended, it needed to be flown at all times. I had the throws insane (extreme) and needed to really watch it or it would loop and roll before youknew it.

Here are some pics...

It looks great!! but where in the heck are you flying it? Mudflats of the north?

AJCoholic

Nuker,
Thats the tailings field behind my house - its actually a finely ground rockdust. When it is wet (like now) it is like hard packed clay! Not much will grow on it, been like that for 50 years I am told...

Its a good place to go with a plane like a spad!

Andrew, the spadZ looks much better in the air!

Glad to hear the test flight went well.

Andrew,
I agree it looks nicer in the air  But actually if you put grass under it I would think it would show up better. Reminds me of being in Cyprus after a good rain storm in a place we named moon country. Desolate and barren with nothing on it. I will bet you have a lot of growth just out of sight from there.

Hey Nuker ..... Don't knock those "Mudflats" !!

I've flown from them many times ...... there great!

Nice and flat, and no grass to cut ..... = ..... Maintenance Free Field!

Hey Jim,

wasn't knocking it, merely inquiring as it looked like a dried lakebed.

Now if you were flying in the Whitby mudflats; then I'd be knocking it

Nuker,
When I was a kid (early teens back in 83, 84) I would get a ride to the tailings or walk across town with my gear becasue that was the ONLY place in town to fly. Then I would sit there for 2 hours trying to get my Cox 049's running, usually without much luck. Unknown to me was that every time I crashed a bit of the pulverised rock dust would get into the engine and basically lap it to death. Can you say NO compression? :)

Now if any gets into the carb I dont try a restart untill I get a chance to flush the engine.

I know you werent making fun. It is a wierd place - but mainly the guys like to go 4 wheeling now and tear it up. It used to be nice and flat years ago and you could fly anywhere. Now its all ruts and holes and a real bear to find a small patch of flat stuff to take off and land.

Hi Andrew,

I was just ragging on Mr. Moss; Randy pays me to do this from time to time

It does look like a handy place to fly though, but with the rain puddles it looked a lot like an almost dried riverbed :)

When they were building the 407 extension out our way, THAT was a tempting place to take off and land from. But that would have been wrong

JimMoss
09-26-2003, 11:35 PM
Probably doesn't have to pay you much either! :P

And as for the 407 ...... I thought you said it was okay as long as you didn't get caught?

Jim Moss :)
