perhaps you folks out there could share your favourite 3D setup - Aircraft, engine prop, servos, balance etc

i have a pizzaz with hitec and jr servos, jr battery pack, airtronics reciever, O.S 70 4 stroke with an apc 12=6 prop....
i like to put the c of g back alittle further than recommended and with this combo the plane will go into a hover than accelerate out...
oh ya i dont like mixes. it takes the pilot out of being a pilot.

Morris the knife
- MVVS 45 with Bisson pipe
- JR PCM 10 RX with 5 517 servos
too nose heavy. :?
Plenty of mixes ... in the end, ya still gotta fly the plane.

Switches?
I don't use snap switches etc. but, I generally assign a mix to switch so I can shut it off when I don't want it.
You mean you don't use flap elevator mixing? Spoilerons? Exponmential? EPA? ...

I have seen more crashes due to mixes at our field.... It takes a better hand to control a craft with such programming.... Many just need to fly simple and basic......
Myself, I like the mixes....... :P

How can you crash a model because of mixing? I just dont see the connection, unless you really really dont know how to program a radio :)

I guess it all depends on your definition of a mix......
I'm not talking snap roll switches......

I have run mixing and dual rates, etc all on switches since I can remember. I guess you get used to it, and when I fly I am constantly flipping switches...
For 3D fun fly set up, I can imagine no elev/flap mixing or some other neat stuff like mentioned (spoilerons for another).
These are NOT mixes to "simplify" flying Jason, but mixes to enhance/improve the manouverability of a plane.
Try mixing elevator to flap on your pizazz - your loops will be tighter and amazingly awesome!
And like a smart man once told me... (listening Jim Moss? ;) ) when you want to fly inverted and drag the rudder, what good does the elevator do? You have to have flaps mixing to go UP again.... :)

One function slaved to another, which has user programmable mix percentages.
ie: elev-flap, rud-ail, rud-ele etc etc etc.
I dont consider a snap roll switch to be mixing, but they are pretty useless :)

thems are fightin words hahah were do you live ill have a fly off with ya,,, thanks for the suggestion andrew! but the only transmitter i have thatl do mixes (besides my 3 channel) is my xp8103 and thats a heli only transmitter  the only transmitter that i use for planes is a simple 6 channel airtronics vangaurd 8) ill still beat ya with it jim  just kiddin But i will have a fly off with ya the next time well accually the first time i see ya :D

Ok you're on.
If I recall southporcupine is somewhere near Timmins isn't it? You ever get down near 'the centre of the universe'?
BTW, no such thing as a heli-only 8103, the dedicated model-type software in the JR line is only in the PCM10 series.

Yup Jim, Timmins...
DOnt worry, I will fill in as your "proxy" and teach that young'n a lesson :P
So what you say Jason, my Pizazz against yours?? Now where are those balloons..... 8)

Maybe back to the setup part of the thread :)
Here is a bit on my Kyosho Flip 3D
Engine : YS 63, 13x4W APC prop, 30% XP Heli, 11,800 rpm, 4 oz fuel tank, good for about 7-8 minutes in the air.
Radio : Futaba 9ZAP WC2, 9650 mini digitals on ailerons, elevator, rudder, 3101 mini on the throttle, R149DP receiver, 1100 mah Nicad pack.
All up weight is about 5.25 lbs, and is absolutely ballistic with the 63 up front, even at 3500' asl.
Balance is setup about halfway back of the recommended range, seems ok but cannot do blenders so well at this CG, probably needs to be moved back some more.
Throws, basically as much as I can get, 45-50 degrees on everything. I use two rates low rate is around 30% of high. Expos on high rates are up in the 80% range, and around 20-30% on low rates.
For mixing, I run elev-flap, and elev-spoilerons, depending on what I am doing no other mixing other than that.
The plane is an riot to fly, it certainly lives up to its name. Very solid flying plane, can fly very slow. I can actually fly through the entire FAI pattern with it, not a pretty one but convincing nonetheless, so its flight envelope is very broad. Even with the large wing area (over 900 squares) it deals with the wind quite nicely.
Its a larger 40 size model and therefore is going to require some jam to really make it haul, for the 4-strokes I dont think you will beat the 63, two-strokes, probably any of the higher output 46-50 size engines will haul it nicely.
Very well constructed ARF, I have not been kind to it (elevator to landing from 500' up multiple times) and it holds up nicely. Not cheap but an excellent model, I would not hesitate to get another if something unfortunate should happen to this one.

ok well what i meant with the transmitter is that it is my helicopter only designated transmitter. :?
ok andrew your on i just did some mods and put a bigger prop on so i cant wait to letther rip hahah come on up this weekend and we will fly off then ..... if your not too scared  :D j/k but for real when are ya comin up? haha ill supply the ballons... but then its an all out agressive style 3d fly hehehehehe cant wait !!!!!!!!! haha :D

My favorite set-up is a SPA3D, ST .40, Standard servos, 12 X 4 APC Prop and tail heavy. Control throws to the max.
Just watch the amazement from balsa only flyers when I pick up my SPA3D after a dork, clean off the dirt...RANGE CHECK  control check and take off again to enjoy the rest of the day.

I guess if I regulary "Dorked" my airplanes, I'd need a spad too. 8)
