The green covering was really on there, and would not come off in strips. It was a real bear.

It looks great!
Nice Canadian scheme. Sure beats the green!

Looks good! I am also going to be recovering a plane this winter. How did you get the green covering off of this one? Im just looking for pointers. Thanks.

What a pain it was. I pulled the covering back and only got the clear cover not the green  The green had to be scraped off with a razor knife and then sanded smooth. I couldnt find a fast/easy way to do this. Sorry

What about using an iron to heat the covering and then pull the covering off? It works if you make a mistake when you are covering a plane and need to reposition the covering, but I haven't tried it on covering that has been on the plane for any length of time.

that sounds like a good idea.

There was also some silver covering on the tail of my plan as well. This peeled right off. It seemed to be more "rubbery" The green covering was more "crinkly"

Hope for the rubbery type

Rubbery is probably Monokote, crinkly is probably Ultrakote.

Use a heat gun to heat the stuck part while pulling gently.
Whatever is left can be removed with acetone. (use proper precautions)

Well, I have to say that I have just started to get back into the hobby after a 20 year absence. My wife purchase a Kadet Mk II for me for Christmas, and I am looking forward to starting the building.

I am just curious as to what peoples opinions are on using a tail dragger as a first trainer.

Regards,

Terry

If you can lean to take off a taildragger first, you can fly anything IMO... :)

I dont think a properly set up taildragger is much harder to learn to get going straight than a tri gear set up, and will take SO much more abuse. I have seen more flying stop due to bent nose gears, loose steering arms, etc that are a pain in the bum. Taildraggers rule in my book!
