Myles- See what happens mate when you miss the club meeting.... :yikes:
Dale, only just recently received rally date confrimation acceptance from CFB Trenton... You better get that BD5 done and the F4, oh and the Mig 25

Peter- I am looking forward to meeting you and many more of the RCC jet forum regulars. I garentee you will have a great time, the location (Mt View CFB base) is just perfect for flying jets + there are rows of old mothballed CAF T33's, F-5's and Tudor Jets to checkout as well.

Heres a list of some of the hotels in the Belleville area. I would suggest probably the Ramada Inn as first choice as it has ample parking for trailers etc. also the closest with only a 15 min drive to Mt View, and is one of the nicest hotels in the area....

Just a few places I would recommend. All these places are popular with the tourists but I beleive the Sportsman has the best rates and just on the edge of town. Picton Harbour Inn and the Tip of the Bay are beside each other right in town.

I remember my dad taking me to the BQ Jet Rally when I was a kid. I couldn't believe it!

I got back into RC in 1998. I acquired a Byron F-16 in 2001, stripped it down, repainted it, and flew it a few times in 2002. When I felt comfortable with the jet, all I could think about was flying it at the BQJR. But when I heard that the 2003 was cancelled, I started to think that it would be too far to get to the next jet rally, so I sold it to a guy in the US. I now wish I hadn't...

Hey Peter just cause you sold your F16 dont let that stop you from coming along to B of Q 04. If you are interested there should be at least a couple turbine powered jet trainer models set up with buddy boxes just for MAAC members to sample turbine powered flight! We will have the big 'SkyJet' set up and available just for this purpose :D

Marty,

I'M THERE FOR SURE!

I got a big kick of flying the F-16, but could only dream of flying the real deal.

Thanks for the info!

Sounds like a good idea and I can volunteer my Roo for a few buddy box flights if interested.
Marty,
Will you have the Panther be done in time?

Peter- Glad to here you can come along! I think this year will be the best yet

Myles- Thats the plan. I have the SkyJet and F-18 to finish in time for Florida Jets. Then when I get back I will continue on with the Panther... The Panther will go together pretty quickly I reckon. Most of the construction time with this model will be spent on fitting gear doors, installing turbine and radio systems and painting and detailing... heres a pic. of how she looks at the moment. The turbine next to the Panther gives an idea of model size. At 1/5 scale this is by far my biggest jet project so far! I cant wait to see this baby in the air :D

Marty, did you purchase or build the turbine test stand? Where could I purchase one? My Wren 54 is to be shipped at the end of the month and I would like to have a stand to do the setup and testing before I install it in the AV8R.

I remember quite well when I was standing beside it, the vertical fin comes up to the top of my legs almost! It's one BIG plane!
Will look real sweet in the air!

Hey Andrew,
I will be bringing my AV8R as well. I have never attended this event either, but this year, hopefully it will be the first time.

I am sure there will be a few AV8R out there....

With work and my "hectic" lifestyle ;) I cant commit 100% to it, but I am trying to talk my girlfriend into going away with me for the weekend. I told her I just have to go flying for one afternoon, the rest of the time we cando other things.... :)

Is there anything else to do around that area? Like hiking or biking trails, etc?

Thanks Kaptan Kaos, I will probably take you up on that offer.

Sounds like this event will be well worth attending. I know I should have my AV9R ready for this one!........ I hope!

Andrew,
Prince Edward County is a major tourists attraction. Here's a link to the Sandbanks page at the PEC website.
http://www.pec.on.ca/other/sandbnks.html

And a link to Lake on the Mountain (very cool indeed!)
http://www.pec.on.ca/other/lotm.html

Check out the whole PEC site though. Come for a weekend I can guarantee you and your better half will not be disappointed. :D

why does it have to be so far away :( I'll think about coming, but that's a long trek, it's gotta be close to 2400 miles I would think!

Jeremy, Too far? Its only 20 mins from my place... seriously though I know what you mean.... But hey quite a few of us will travel silly distances for our jet meets especially the big events like Florida Jets and Superman. I drove down to FJ last year it took me two days of driving through Northern winter blizzards with snow all the way to northern tip of Florida. you have to be keen I guess?
That said B of Q is a pretty special event. Its the oldest (longest running) annual jet rally thats held in North America. I would rank it as one of the best to attend in North America simply due to its great venue and a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.... definetely worth it if you can make it!

Jeremy

The few times I attended I managed to get a really good deal on flying out from vancouver. Round trip was a bit over $ 250 CDN. It was a great event the only problem is that you have to book well in advance and if the weather turns ugly then you are screwed because the tickets are not refundable. Some good friends are moving out to Straford in June and need help moving...hmmm I wonder if a quick trip over to the rally may be in order

Myles, thanks for the links, if I can plan a day or two with Rachel, she will probably agree to spot for me at the jet-together... :)

I mean, I did just buy her a friggin' ring and all, its pay back time!! ;) :)

Its a good day's drive there for me too, so I better plan on taking an extra long weekend off this summer...

My wife accompanies me to almost all the jet events I go to. So do a number of other wives and girlfriends. If your girlfriend accompanies you, she will not be left alone while you do your flying thing. The "Ladies Auxiliary" are always happy to have newcomers join the group.

A couple of the events I go to involve 11 to 13 hour drives. Here's what I do. I take the day before the event, and the monday after the event off work. I pack up the night before. I'm on the road at 6:00am. I leave the event mid afternoon Sunday and arrive home very late. I sleep in Monday and unpack Monday afternoon. Back to work Tuesday.

YMMV.

Can planes other than Jets fly at the B of Q?
I was thinking about flying my Great Planes F14 as well as the AV8R.
Thanks
