Heres 2 more pics from the trip. This is Fred Johnsons hanger right at his house in Ocala Florida!
Inside you will find his full size AT6, Christen Eagle Bipe, and a Cessna 182!
I was luckey enough to go for a ride in the AT6! I can still feel those 5+ Gs during the loops and half cubans we did!!
Fred lives on an "Air Ranch" where everyone has a hanger right at the house with various planes inside. There are about 75 homes, all with taxiways leading to a 6000 ft runway. :D
What a place!

Yes your right... I was getting ready to try to kick some butt in the finals  Unfortunately, during one of my known sequences on Sat, the judges said I crossed the deadline at one end of the box  :yikes: As a result, my whole sequence was given a zero, as those were the rules at this contest. Normally, you would just zero that manoeuver.
There were no throw away rounds during the finals. All 4 flights including 2 Unknowns  [given to us that morning  ] counted for your final score. I was out of the running at that point, so I did not bother flying my last unknown, and decided to get an early start on the 24 hour drive home.
All in all a good event though. And the weather was real hard to take :!:

Bob,Mike,Randy,
what would you say about the level of competitors, compared to what we have here in Ontario? You three have been around for a good bit, throughout the NC zone .
The trip sounds like a great vacation thing - but how would one fare with something less than a 28% or bigger gasser?
As if I had a chance anyway

With a lot of the competitors coming from areas of the US where the flying season is much longer than ours, the competition was very tough. These guys have had much more time to practise than any of us.
In sportsman or Intermediate I think just about size plane would be competitive. In any class, its the guy moving the sticks that makes the biggest difference.... Practise.... practise .... practise...

How much practice did u get in before going to the event Mike? Are the unknowns the same or less difficulty?

Don't worry so much about the size of your plane .Ask Randy ...last year at our contest I beat Randy with his own airplane :P (Thanks Randy :!: ) Anyways it was a 28% giles 300 (74 inch WS moki powered) and I had no real trouble flying through the intermediate sequence with it . IMO with a lot of practice you could even compete in advanced with a plane that size , given the right conditions. Just keep flying it , practice, practice and more practice . More often than not, we simply beat ourselves when we compete .
25%- 28% are good flying planes , just practice.

None at all Jan. I had not flown since Oct. I did arrive in Florida late on the Sunday, and then had 3 days to get as many flights in as possible in that time frame before the contest started on Thurs. I managed to shake off some of the rust that had accumulated on me over the winter.
The Unknowns were not bad the on Thursday, but by Saturday they were pretty tough. Lots of thinking to do on them. The other interesting thing, was that when the Unknowns were handed out, all they gave you was the aresti. There was no written description of the manouvers! You had to figure that out on your own.
