I got my first taste of combat today at a club scramble! AND I LIKE IT! now i didn't get a cut...but i still had lots of fun, I was slower then the other two planes I'm running a used engien they have brandnew engines :p and i got cut 2 times but it's all in good fun! No mid-airs to report on. I'm going to modify my muffer for wednesday and try to get my engine to peak...
hehe
I tasted first blood today too in my spad Dogfighter at the same club!
And ended up with a nice cut on Sideslip's streamer to boot!
Maidened 3 birds today. My Fokker D7 (which needs to lose some weight and a decent set of landing gear) has no bad habits. When it lifted off the ground it went into a wicked left crab, but did not flip over at all, and the test pilot managed to stabilize it and trim it up. It looks really graceful in the sky.
It's weighing in at 4lbs 6oz cuz of all the stupid nose weight I had to add to balance the thing, and that OS .25 LA needs a good break in.
Thanks again to Sideslip for breaking her in!
Finally, my Ta152 at 2lbs 12oz which was "the best flying scale combat plane I've ever flown" said one veteran. This plane is VERY fast!
Cant wait to show it off at next weeks combat demo in Toronto.
:yikes:
BTW Chris, you need a callsign now that you're official. (if you dont already have one)

Cuts or not, that was great fun. You are a great flyer Chris, so it's just a matter of time before you start racking up cuts... it's basically half luck, and half developing your peripheral vision so you can anticipate where the enemy is going to be next... but mostly luck hehe.
Both you and Buzz flew great today, and I think Buzz in particular learned that combat isn't half as intimidating or difficult as people generally think! By the third round he was yanking and banking like any other combat pilot hehe.
That D.VII was pretty sweet Buzz... If it can drop 6 oz by lengthening the nose an inch or so, it'll fly perfectly. I enjoyed that heavy duty "sideslip" it did on takeoff hehe. I'm taking some notes from your experience and already planning on shifting the wing on my Pup design back an inch. I think that is going to need to be a rule of thumb for these WWI birds, especially the rotary engine versions.
S!

There's nothing like the rush of a good combat....and the storm of balsa dust then can follow shortly there after.

Hey Iceman, I just watched that movie again for about the tenth time. Robert Shaw played quite a good role......I don't get too hung up over cuts either. It would be nice to win an event but that's not the most imporatnt component. I think you have to fly combat a lot to get good at getting cuts. If you don't fly enough then cuts are as much dumb luck as anything. It's the 5 minutes of trying that matters. It's the most fun you'll ever have flying an R/C plane.

Yeah I don;t mind not getting a cut I had fun being chased around the skies and having to use my craziest flying to get away from the faster planes :)

Hey Fodder,
I agree on the 'combat rush' !
I CA the 'balsa dust' back together.
I replace the white foam.
Light is Might.
Yup, I'm Cheap... and Nasty...hehehe
All I want is my streamer points, and a few cuts... it would be nice !
Still waiting for the T-Bone 'smitherines' Midair....
Combat is way too much fun.
See your streamer soon, I hope.
Take care, have fun,

Buzz we'll have to have a race to see who's the fastest Ive got a couple of fast ones too. A sort of Mini Reno race. You up for it?
Lemme hone my skils Jeff. Sounds like it could be fun... assuming this plane survives a few combat rounds. It is all balsa. But not to worry. More of my hybrid airframes are in the making.
