It was quite a feeling seeing that bird lift off, I scratch built it from some 1/72 three view drawings and toward the end I was starting to wonder who the heck I thought I was expecting it to fly, it is just like a big trainer Mike
yeah, sometimes those models fool us....
So which do you like better? the P-38 or the Herc ????

I have to speak very quietly, If I make the wrong choice they may get upset , acttually both birds a a joy to fly, watching the P38 pull over into s strafing run gives my shivers and seeing the Herc coming in , nose high and just touching down on the mains and then dropping on the nose gear and turning back off the runway was AWESOME Mike
heh heh....nice to have a difficult choice...

That is really beautiful, Mike!
However, it opens a whole bunch of questions in my tiny mind; some of which are: Are you flying off grass? What size wheels are in use? Do you have operating flaps? If so, what type and how are they actuated?
I've always loved Hercs, and have flown in them numerous times (as a passenger) when in the Forces. I can understand your pleasure in flying it, they are majestic in the air.

Lots of overhead wires in that first shot... ln fact, it looks like you're making a low pass right under them... makes for some interesting approaches I'm sure!

I am flying of a very short, close cut , grass runway it was off and flying in less than 50 feet without using the flaps, the wheels are 4 inch light weight, I have both inner and outer split flaps but so far have not tried them out, landings are just a matter of turning on to final, lining it up,throttle down to a high idloe and let it fly on, it comes in nose high, the mains touch and the nose wheel drops on, Thanks for the inquire, MIke

Yep,they are about 16 feet high over the end of the runway, landings are not a problem but low passes with BIG planes is a little hairy, it never seems to fail that you hit some lift about 100 feet out and the plane goes up a few feet, they have caused a few mishaps Mike
