Hi guys just looking for some feedback on whats available as far as functional and scale lighting systems for our models. Iwould like to install functional nav, landing and strobe on my SkyMaster F18 but iam wondering if its worth the effort??? as I have not seen or heard of any systems yet that may meet my expectations...
Ideally I would like to find a highly visible nav, strobe and landing light system that shows up well and can be seen on a sunny day... I have been surfing the web and checked out a few of the popular brand manufactures lighting systems but what they show on their websites are lights operating either at night or indoors in darkend rooms :? Has anyone got suggestions or tried systems them selves that will work well on a sunny day? any ideas guy's

Happy New Year

I had the RAM setup on a CG Sukhoi, they were the flashing nav lights complete with a switch that allowed me to turn it off and on with my radio.

Used it one or 2 times, still sitting on my shelf (for 4 or 5 years) interested?? I sell it cheap.

Hi Chris, how do the RAM lights you have look/showup on a sunny day? I had some RAM LED's (red/green) mounted on a slope soarers wing tips years ago and they were only really visible in low light conditions around early evening.... I guess this is why Iam asking what works on a sunny day? :)

To be totally honest, I can't remember how they looked. Is this a sign of old age???

They are strobe style of lights so in theory they would show in daylight, how well..........???? Sorry I can'r be more helpful, like I said they've sat on a shelf for 4 or 5 years.

Thanks for the link, they look like nicely made sytems that for sure... but I noticed in their gallery all the pics of the lights in operation are in low light conditions. I guess they would be great on park flyers and slower scale models that can be flown in the evenings, but I was hoping to fit a light system to my F-18 which I only fly in ideal conditions anyway.....although I have tried LED's before I just thought there maybe another brighter option out there???

I think I will now just consider making up a nose strut mounted landing light (home made) I have made up landing lights before using a small 'Maglite' lens and a servo activated micro switch and 9v battery with pretty good results...

Chris, Iam interested in your strobe lights but Iam curious to see size and shape? could you post a pic please :D

Hi Marty,

Unfortunately, my digital camera went Chernobyl about a month or so ago   . And I haven't gotten it fixed or replaced yet.

I'll have to take a picture of it the old fashioned way and get it developed. May take some time, not enough hours in the day it seems. :( :(

Marty, I know where you can get the Xemon flash in 6V or 12V if you're interested let me know, definitely very bright at daylight. :)

Whats that? never heard of one before?....
I remember many years ago installing a large home made strobe light into the tail of a Pilot ARF Talon (anyone remember those) :D .... it worked fine on the ground but once I took off every time the strobe flash went off the Talon did a half snap roll to the right, I managed to get it back onto the ground pretty much in one piece, but it was the funniest thing my fellow club member had seen for a long while they said as I was also glitching with body language and laughing so much I had tears in my eyes flying the little thing around the patch.
I guess Iam obviously no expert with electronics so I better stick with the purpose built tried and tested lights if I use a strobe again

I was just looking through FLY RC magazine. Saw an ad for these guys,

http://www.electrodynam.com

Their ad says Wide angle, Sunlight-Visible lamps.

Hi Chris, I find it quite odd that of all the manufacturers selling lighting systems for models that I have seen so far, Iam yet to see any photos of the lights working on models in normal sunlight... check out the so called 'sunlight visible' lights on the Electrodynamic site you mentioned how come the pic is of model is evening or night.... weird! anyway I think I will leave the nav lights as non functional and just go with a home made landing light made form a mini maglite lens and micro switch set up.... I still am considering a strobe if I can find one of scale appearence...

Cheers-

this system seems to put out a lot of light. FROM the hi-power LED's.

THE problem is... that the brighter the lights the BIGGER the lights and the BIGGER the battery --- and the heavier things get.

BUT HI-power LEDs will give you MORE light per oz of weight.
