I used to have a Kyosho Raider Pro a long time ago. Before I go out and buy a new RC I have a few questions. I am also open to suggestions and comments from anyone. I want to learn as much as I can.
I like to build the cars. After a quick visit to a local hobby shop I see that a lot of models come pre-assembled. I like to assemble my own car. What choices does that leave open for me? I was entertaining the idea of getting a dune buggy again but I was told that the truck models are better suitted for offroading (better balance) and that they can take rougher terrain since they have better suspension. I can't remember the term, but the designation was ST (as in the Duratrax Nitro Evader ST). This designates a sracing truck instead of something more along the lines of a monster truck with more ground clearance.
It seems that Gas powered RCs are more common than battery powered. What are the pros and cons for either? Battery life expentancy is around 10 minutes after a 15 minute charge. How long is gas runtime. And what type of gasoline do these engines run on? I am assuming that I can't get it from the corner gas station. How reliable are gas engines? What type of maintenance should I know about? If I leave the engine sit for years is it still going to operate?
Who is a good manufacturer to look at? The hobby shop I mentioned sells an entry level Tamiya Super Hornet and Traxxas Bandit (both electric). For a little more I can get a Duratraxx Nitro Evader ST (gas).
I like the gas idea just because the cars are that much faster. But all the models available were pre-assembled. To be honest, there was not much selection at the time. However, if I find a model from either of the three manufacturers listed above I should be able to order them from the hobby shop located in town.
