Well I started a few days ago building my new ground up Shogun. The only thing that is from an original Shogun is the CP rod, the bottom plastic washout and 4 small plastic linkages, top boom clamp, and the main gear. Rest of it is all aftermarket etc.. I like my first one so much I thought I would make a blinged out performance one. I have the T-Rex flybar as well as T-Rex paddles and also the new MH T-Rex control arms. The head components are Sparrow, and Heli Up along with the belt drive and tail goods being heli up and MH. According to all my research on what I have put into this little heli it should be able to turn itself into knots.
I am currently waiting for some different top mixers as the ones they sent were wrong, as well as I have to make some spacers for the T-Rex arms to fit properly and a few other small mods to make this T-Rex / Shogun fit properly.
I am putting in (4) 56HB Servos, Berg 6ch, Just Go Fly DH400 Motor with 8T Pinion 2400+ RPM on head available, 35 CC ESC. I also got a JMD Raptor canopy that I will paint and apply as well. I am going to go with a Blue/Orange/Yellow combo for this canopy.
I will update pictures as I make more progress later on.

Wow - that's sweet! Not much left of the Shogun except the main gear! Align CF-ish paddles, lot of nice Sparrow and Heliup goodies there!

Well finally got some longer hex heads in so continued on. Made up the flybar arm spacers since the MH T-rex ones are so much shorter. Using the turnbuckles used for a cub plane for the 6mm difference needed, dremels are the best! Anyways installed the JGF DH400 and what a pain in the arse with the heli up motor plate. Also Sparrow Products was nice enough to make me a custom lightened pitch lever which they have not made any levers for months. Just have to go through a few links now, some minor lining up, then the jmd raptor canopy gets its skin etc electronics.... will post more later when more done. :P

Well I had to make inner race washers for every bearing because Heliup is too cheap to add them in any of their aftermarket product bags, made spacers from wing buckles to add 6mm to flybar arms, used 4 2mm washers on each arm to make up difference for T-Rex flybar arms, fitted T-Rex flybar better. Purchased a JMD canopy but have to yet get ahold of proper glue to paint it yet, the Raptor canopy I thnk will look good. I also went with Sparrow blade grips as well as the HH ones fit the cf blades poorly. A few pics to show the progress. Test flight was extremely stable, hands off indoors, solid as a rock.
Not a single drop of ca on this bird, not a single z-bend and zero slop!!
What I learned from this little project was this.... building either a T-Rex or Shogun is a matter of time and money, thats' no big deal to build either, both are simple. Building a helicopter that combines the two is difficult as nothing is meant to fit with the other, making things line up and actually work properly is a challenge for sure. A dremel and patience can go a long way. Anyways, some trimming and some more fine tuning and a better canopy and paint job and this little guy should be magizine material. :D

Have you had any issues with the DH400 Motor? It was on my short list for a ccpm composite ark 400 build but since im using a cc35 I shyd away from it based on alot of reports that they dont work well together in govern mode.
the power of that motor really makes me want to use it and I feal like im settling for less based on statistic reviews with the aon 3500 that im leaning towards now.
so if youve had issues with this setup and have fixed it let me know !!! likewise if youve NEVER had issues let me know lol maybe its a resolved issue with CC35 firmware revisions ?
Thanks
Pete

It will not work with Governor mode, even with the newest firmware in the esc. It works very smooth though with fixed throttle curves, just do not go over 85% on your curve or expect 2700 + rpm screamin demon!!!!
