nitro isn't the best to start off with but if you are it depends on what you are going to be doing with the truck...hpi = beater/race =traxxas/revo is a good beater but other then that all the trucks are shitty for beating. like the tmaxx has great handleing and the jato has great speed but they cant withstand what the savage can do..

H.P.I. Firestorm......I can take the stock swing arms and bend them 90*. You can put a roto start on the stock engine and is fairly easy to tune. One of the best designs I have come across. What I call a "sandwich" chassis, is what holds it all together. In my opinion, the best to start out on.

I strongly recommend the Kyosho DBX or DST which is what we sell the most in our shop. It is a 1/10 4WD RTR buggy with a pull start engine. Easy to operate for the beginner. Parts is relatively inexpensive and we stock everything as well.

just keep in mind truggy's are the easiest to drive and easiest to drive fast.., Monster trucks are the most durable, but don't corner well and are sluggish,... and finally buggies are the fastest if driven correctly, but hardest to drive and the least durable.

I don't want to say that you are wrong, but I will say I disagree.
From my experiences Truggies are very easy to drive as well as durable. I have BASH tested everything I have.
Monster Trucks are indeed harder to drive and break easier, unless they land perfectly on 4 wheels.
Buggys are also a little harder to drive. They are much faster than Trucks and Truggies. Once you learn to drive a buggy, you will have a lot of fun with it. Buggies are NOT easy to break. Smaller wheels and Shorter Suspension arms allow Buggies to land any way including cart-wheeling 50ft after landing and keep going. I have done it many times. Watch the XXX-Main videos where they jump school buses and houses and drive away. I dare anybody to try that with a T-Maxx.

1. never said truggies wern't durable and i said they're the easiest to drive.. so we actually agree on that.
2. never said buggies were easy to break, just the least durable of the three types (generally) , yes of course you can find a monster truck that will break easier than a buggy. but when comparing the same price point and the same company for each, a buggy will break faster than a truggy or a truck, since tehy offer the least energy absorbtion values in all three axis.
3. seen and driven lots of E-Maxx's jumping equal to and greater than a school bus without issue. HPI savage's have no problem either (even when they bounce of their lids)
4. Trucks aren't "hard to drive" but they are harder to drive fast, since they're top heavy and have large amounts of body roll... caused by the massive ground clearance and extra large squishy dual suspension and tires that in part make them so durable. (the other being the heavier duty chassis).

I have one and like it too. As a beginner you should start off with a lower speed and less expensive.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiOXaneAH48

Good deal! I got mine off kijiji as well and paid 200 for T-maxx and Jado with 2.4 Spectrums. People get them and don't understand what kind of work they are. Then we come along!!:)

Dude, Trust me when I say 'reconsider nitro' around $5000 later, my nitros collect dust and my brushless 4x4 lipo vehicles are running strong and are pure enjoyment. Faster too. May I ask what prompts you to want nitro? I have an OFNA 9.5 MBX with an O.S. VZ-B V-Spec - T2050 pipe and header Hitec MG-645 Servos never raced proffesionally run and broken in you can offer on. It's a shelf queen. The engine and pipe alone were over $500.... but as good a vehicle this is... My Slash Ultimate run on 2S 30C lipo is way more fun, and I can race indoor no prob. I admit nitro is psycho...but...maybe I've just lost patience.

My apinion is Nitro.. Nothing better then your car / truck taken off and leaving a nice trail of smoke/smell. Never had electric and dont have any experience so I could tell you what is better when your a newbie. Im also a newbie and started of with a Hpi RS4 on-road car then witched over to a Hpi Savage X.. Got another Savage on the way!
Im having a blast and still learning lots every day!
Visiting this forum have made me alot more educated in RC.
Good Luck...

I think Nitro is the way to start. If you are serious about the hobby, Nitro will provide more enjoyment and knowledge. If you want a toy to play with and you don't want the hobby part of it, go electric. I will admit, there are Brushless Electrics out there that are really fast and do provide a bit of a hobby, but it's not a noisy, smoking, nitro engine!!! AAhhh Nitro!!
Running a hobby shop, I see a lot of people start with Nitro for the wrong reason, a fast, fun toy. They take home their New Nitro Buggy and put fuel in it and go for a rip down the street to show their friends how fast it can go, after I explained Egine Break-in to them. Then they come back the next day and say it is a piece of S**T because it won't run anymore. Now they have to replace an engine already and maybe some other parts. Now do you see where the idea "Expensive Hobby" comes from?
Go with whatever you feel most comfortable with, that way it is your choice and you can only blame yourself if it doesn't work out..LOL
