I've just moved back from Moncton, NB and would like to gather info about the RC movement in the area. I am wondering if there a just few RCers in the area or if there are a lot and I just haven't found them yet? Are there any race tracks or RC clubs or groups that you know about? Are there any RC shops and if there are do you have details?

I think once the weather clears up, we'll have to go bashing if we can gather enough of us to make it a great day. Join the St. John's RC Facebook group mentined above if you are interested.

sweet! a RC website for Newfoundlanders!

i'm posting because i have a problem with my revo 3.3. i used it in jan 09 once, cleaned it up, and put it away, when i took it out it was a little hard to get started, but it started, it stayed going for about 10 secs then stalled. it didn't just shut off, it stalled. when i tried starting it again, it would start, stay going for 3-4 secs, then stall again. when it starts it wants to run away from me, but it dies shortly after. i thought it was the clutch spring because it was trying to run away from me. but i checked that and its not.

it seems that the fuel isn't getting to the carb properly unless i hold my finger over the pipe. (which isn't good). someone said the carb might be cloged, so i took the carb apart. and cleaned it even though it didn't seem dirty or cloged.

i am going to try it today, but i don't think its going to be any different. any ideas?

born420
04-24-2009, 11:52 AM
check your high speed needle sound like you tighended it too much there bud try richening it up then try to start it up but before you do that blow into the exaust line and see if its tight

well, after trying it (after cleaning the carb) it worked. so i guess there was something in the carb lol. probably should have tried it before i posted but it i really didn't expect that to work.

i had the needles on stock settings.

Bowering park seems to be mostly grass aswell. a few small trails.
pf collins seems to be good. but i went there before. its a construction site, can't really go there i dont think. across the road from the building theres a very small spot thats loose sand. it was ok there, but its super small.

hmmm should I start by saying hi to the townies or baymen? Just kidding. :-D

I had a look at your site http://rcnewfoundland.com/ are you strickly R/C cars & trucks or aviation too?

There are a couple of R/C aircraft clubs in St.John's and there are 'pockets' of guys running trucks & boats, not sure if there are any clubs for those groups.

If you are interested in flying or learning how I'd suggest joining a club as it'll give you access to a flying site(s) and training if you need it.

Hey fellow Newfies. I live in Alberta, but am from southern NF. There is a small track in Heart's Delight. Check out their Youtube Video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkl_2_9fnEQ
I run a hobby shop in Alberta and supply these guys with parts and other R/C Stuff. Someday I will return and, if there is enough demand, bring Terra Nova Hobby with me.
I would love to hear from anyone on the Island, I miss it. I envy anyone lucky enough to still be there.

Someone was talking of a new hobby shop there, did it ever happen. I know Signal Hobbies are there, did they ever expand. That is a lot of stairs to climb to get to that shop. LOL

They don't want nitro there because they know you will kick their a*s and make them look slow. They will all have to get nitros and then you will see them tear the Sh*t out of everything.
Thanks for checking out the TERRA NOVA HOBBY website. It was actually 2 of my team racers from Quebec who built the website. I am impressed with it myself. :D
There is a forum on there if anyone wants to start some conversation.
If you guys can get enough R/C's going down there, I will come home and you will have an awsome hobby shop in the province. My brother may be moving back there to live in St.John's and he will have his 2 Nitros.

A bigger hobby shop would be nice. I think that the missus at signal hobbies only is at it part time, and doesn't know a whole lot, when you go there, basically know what you want and bring part numbers.....lol

A bigger hobby shop might be able to organize something a little better.

Hi, I have mentioned before that my brother may be moving back home. It is definite now. He should be there by spring, just in time for R/C season. Who does he get in touch with for a club or group to run with? He is also into the Rock Crawlers.

eastcoast78
02-20-2011, 02:58 AM
Hey Nitro Newfie. As for a Club, there are none. The RC truck/buggy community is plentiful from what i gather. Every time i'm at the LHS there's someone buying something RC Truck related. Ive talked to a few,it just seems there are small pockets of a few buddy's out bashing...

Shocking!!! I only had my Revo running once last summer. We did have a track out in the EastEnd of the City, that was a few years ago now. Not sure if its still used. It was hard to maintain..Surface consisted of Crushed rocks/gravel. A few laps and there's stones flying everywhere lol

The are 2 RC Clubs in St Johns. SJRCF and Club 4752 Aeromodellers Inc.
From what i gather; a few members of each club have RC Trucks etc...

Gixxer
02-22-2011, 08:30 AM
Yeah seems to be lots of little groups. I have a couple of buddies that have trucks. I know there are a couple of facebook groups. As well as RCNewfoundland.com but doesn't seem to be much happening with that.

We will try to get more people together in the spring.

Guys, don't be so hard on Signal Hobbies. I know how hard it is to have everything and be open all the time. If the demand is not there, they can't afford to be open all the time. They can't stock everything, it is a lot of money tied up. If everyone helps out, they can probably know when to be open, and what kind of stuff is most popular.
I have lots of people here that say " I got ..... from the states and saved $5" Then the same people come back and complain because they broke a part and I don't have it "Right now". Now they have to wait a week for me to get it or they can save $5 and get it from the US in 2 weeks.

As for the guys that come into my shop every week, I almost always have what they need and they get good deals.

edit** and as for signal hobbies, my buddy is waiting almost a month on a gasket he keeps calling and still same answer well itll be in in a couple of days, and same every time, we need a better lhs and as for her not being able to afford to stay open even 2 hours more a day, all of them are doctors and her husbands buddys are all in the rc air club here i watched in one night how she can make a weeks salery at this just from 2-3 peoples wallets, pluss they charge up to150$ a year just to be in the club, not being mean or begrudge them but yeh i think from 11-5 would be a nicer deal, ---- i would go work there my self and have some basic knowledge, do lots of product research, testing (well you cant just look at a box and sell bullshit), and advertising, just to help bring the hobby into focus i just want people to enjoy the model (cant say toy) just as much as i have with mine.

yes but it got that bad for me having a nitro pede 3.3 fully hopped up keep parts and same with the tmaxx i had i was over at that shopp 3 times a week when i had those and then it went to planes, i went to an indoor up in mt pearl and im pretty sure seom fellas said it was like 65$for to join the club and another 75$ for insurance so adding them togather kinda makes out to be 150$ ori might be off by maxx of 10$ but thats close to the price for the flying club and i wasnt going to pay that and then another 6$ a night to go to indoors, sorry i wanted to fly but not that badly and i ended up getting 3 planes the 3rd one i used once and then the fear came back lol (crash) i smashed the bf109 into the vround not long after take off. i have my reasons for going from one rc to another lol lets hope electric is the way to go cus nitro sucks lol
and for my late bday gift to me from me lol is a nice new grave digger. got some old parts from my npede to fit, rear hub carriers and bearings. other then that i got about 300$ worth of metal that and a truck that was called a nitro stampede at one point lol in a pile in the corner, i didnt research enough to realize that npede parts will not fit all my parts are too short for the new one
any ways 9am out for the first few jumps of the morning the only thing im going to be ordering from now on is the trucks lol and my buddy is waiting over a month now on a gasket he keeps calling every monday and thursday , and the same thing, " oh my i was supposed to get a shipmen in on monday, call back then" and repeat lol its not as good as an answering maching but she could put one there and mimic her and say that lol she would be saving her breath

i hear yea,i have a 2.5 revo now for 6-7 years on my second engine and Glow is a PITA sometimes. Once you get used too tuning it its not bad.
i find at the beginning of the year/spring is the worst for tuning.
I like Elec Planes as well Plug it in a fly!!!

electric is the only way to go lol and i still kinda got my 3.3 pede but i swapped 2.5 in her and she is semi scrapped now im waiting on the new owner to go buy the parts and he wants me to reassemble it, all the hinge pins bent like hockey sticks lol im prolly gonna get my cub out some time soon and see whats totally wrong with that might just need a battery box and lipo lol

and as for your revo, why not convert

haha id say lol. well i got my truck running again but i want to get some bearings for it i had some but they broke, now back to bushings, got my new motor you know it costs $41.50 from signal hobbies just for a titan550 12t. ok off topic here (kinda) i thought it would be great to start a semi youth group like father son or in my case cousin rc group and get more people interested into the hobby some basic entry lvl trucks (face it newfoundland is no good for drifters unless you got a fresh parking lot near by) and get some comps and stuff on the go summer is coming and getting a new generation into this would be great! there are alot of kids in my area that would like to get into it but cant afford to or their parents will think it'll break like them walmart do-hickys lol so they wont get them one but slowly im getting a few poeple in my area started up 2 of my buddies and my cousin if he passes school, and my friends son will be getting one too for passing so maybe 5 or 6 so far i will get my dad to get his head out of the clouds sooner or later hahaha, bash any one soon by pf collins?
