Hi,
I have been toying with the idea of aerial photo/video. Am considering strapping a camera to a small electric plane or my Trex450 heli.
Any suggestions of a nice compact camera that does good stills as well as decent video?

Claude,

I'm using a Panasonic Lumix which is compact and light...6 oz. I have been happy with the stills but video is meh.

For something as small as the Trex 450 I'd suggest something like the flycamone 2. Very light and comes with a mounting bracket, you can even remotely activate the camera trigger with an extra servo or keep it in video mode. Can even pan the camera lens up and down.

You may want to consider a Canon PowerShot SD780 IS.
They are a VERY compact camera with a huge punch. If you like to shoot video this puppy shoots in HD. It also has a HD port built in!
Its a very usable camera but don't expect it to be adjustable as a DSLR.
The nice thing is its only 4 oz!! Pop some 335's on your trex gear up and let her rip:)

The Cheapest I have found it was $265 CA at London drugs

My Trex 450 will take up a 3/4 pound high def camcorder. They are pretty powerful for their size when running at high headspeeds.

Keep in mind such a small heli really moves around. A camera with a really good sports mode or even manual would be a bonus.

Pentax W10, W20, W40 all have 'interval mode'

Preset the camera for 10sec-99min between shots
Select number of shots 2-1000 (to max memory size)
Select delay before starting zero min to 24 hours

attach and fly

I'm looking for a W10 if someone wants to sell me one.

edit: 155g and 'waterproof' (to 1.5m) 6Mpixel and up

Thanks for all the GREAT suggestions :D

Here is the flycamone2: looks like a very good and reasonable cost option at about $100

But for what I want to capture, that Canon SD780 is the way to go! If they have one at the local store, that is what I will have to go for.
