Dan:

If Andrew is unable to help you, try contacting the archives at head office.

Alternate would be to contact the RCM plans service and see what they have in the way of articles to go with the plans. Buy the plans and get the article.
Only other possible source is eBay.

RCM Plans includes a print out of the TEXT of the article. They do not include a copy of the article. No pictures from the article are included with the plans.

If Andrew can't find that particular issue (having just moved lock, stock and barrel!) PM me and we can make some sort of an arrangement - I'm pretty sure I must have that issue in the garage!.

Currently searching for RCM Magazine April 1995 featuring Bob Rich and his Cessna L-19.
Would pay premium dollar if anyone has for sale?

Thanks,
Fred

Corsair, if your thinking of doing the Bird Dog you can get a short kit at http://lazer-works.com/rcm.html and a cowl & windows at http://www.fiberglassspecialtiesinc.com/catalog.htm I have no idea what is included with windows. But I am considering the Bird Dog as a project.

Thanks very much for your advise! However, I have already received the kit, plans, cowl and windows. All I am wanting is the original article from RCM with Bob Rich on the front cover (April 1995). At one time I had the magazine but can't find any longer. Having the magazine would be the icing on the cake! The windows are very nice. They are cut to shape for this kit and are well worth it instead of trying to cut out yourself. It has taken this long to finally start this build.

Fred

I think I have 2 copies of the article. If your still looking for it I can scan it and email it to you or I can send my second copy snail mail. Or do both.
And I got escorted off Langley Airport on Sunday for trying to take pictures of a Bird Dog!

Lake Flyer,

Sorry you got escorted off the field, must of been quite exciting? Yes, if you have a second full copy of the magazine, then I would like it very much. You can send it via snail mail. Please allow me to pay for the postage and magazine. How would you like to proceed?

Fred

Fred, PM with your address and I'll get it in the mail. It is not the whole magazine. If I find an article I like I take a razor blade and cut it out and file it. That way I can find it again. If someone leaves a bunch of mags in the clubhouse I take the ones I want home, cut them, then return them less the article I wanted. :)

Thanks very much for your offer, however, I may be receiving a full copy from a fellow hobby member. I do appreciate your generous offer and thank you very kindly.

Best regards
Fred

I have this issue.

I have the scan of the article and am also planning the RCM L19 as a winter project since I had an L19 as one of my first planes (30 years ago). A club member sold it to me. It was from a Sig kit I thought. I have not seen it (Sig kit) listed since so was not totally sure it was an L19 kit originally.

At any rate, NijaToes, I wonder if you could tell me what else was in that April 1995 issue of RCM (in the way of construction article--if any).

Thank you.

Mooney Driver, Sig bought out Berkeley Kits and sold several of the Berkeley kits as Sig Kits. Berkeley had 3 different sizes of Bird Dogs so most likely your kit was Sig.
Maybe we should start an Bird Dog build thread. It might get me motivated to start one to.

Do you happen to know any of the stock numbers or model numbers that Berkley used for the L19 kits? That might be easier to find than a Sig kit, especially if Sig did not run it very long.

I have seen only 2 other plans for L19's. One was a small park flyer electric in Flying Models last year (Dec I think) and another was a 1960's magazine (Flying Models again comes to mind) but do not remember the month. That is about the extent of the kits and plans that I am aware of besides the RCM April 1995 article/plan we are discussing.

Do you or anyone else know of other L19 scratch building plans (that are not large scale but 1/2A up through maybe .40 size)?

Thank you.

Mooney, The plans for the berkeley kits are available at http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1265873 The 22" L-19 was kit no. 24-3, the 36" I don't know, 63" was No. 2-5.
I have the construction article for Pat Tritle's 26" free flight bird dog. And a construction article for a 40" electric from Model Flyer magazine. If your interested in either one PM me with your email and I will scan them for you.
I think the 36" Berkeley plan is the best of the bunch but that is just me.
Airborne Magazine also has a plan, I think I did the metric conversion and it came out to 63" or something like that. http://www.airbornemagazine.com.au/

PM your email addy if you wish. I have PDF's of plans that can be enlarged at printers for 22, 26 and 63 inch spans of L-19. All Berkeley. If you are interested. The 36 inch shows all parts. The 63 inch has enough cross sections shown that if you are motivated it can be done. No glass parts needed. Great subject. It was my first.

Cheers, Bill

I believe I have the construction article and the free plan for the bird dog plan listed as MAG 40 in the link above.

They have 3 plans listed there at:

http://www.myhobbystore.co.uk/product/15806/mag68--cessna-bird-dog

http://www.myhobbystore.co.uk/product/15820/fsp568--cessna-bird-dog

http://www.myhobbystore.co.uk/product/16300/mag40--cessna-bird-dog

which includes the Mag 40 that you mention. I did not see any reference to where the plans might have originally appeared (if they appeared in print somehwere).

The Model Flyer article you mentioned looked intesting but did not see a publication date.

Thank you.

Lake Flyer told me that the 1960's Flying Models I am looking for is the April-May 1960 issue so now I am trying to get that article to see what materials are used as the plan does not really tell me all the parts call outs for material type.

Lake Flyer (I think) told me of Fly RC magazine article by Rich uravich in Dec 2003 issue and a Model Flyer L19 article and a RCSA article by N. Holme in the April/May 1994 issue that had a Bird Dog plan or at least an article so I am finding more all the time. Many are bigger than I wanted but the Bird dog is a nice model. I associate it with the J3 that seems to be so popular.

Thank you for the help.
