    Alright,
We will have to agree to disagree.
    Happy flying

I am not going to debate the structure nor the contents nor the amount of information the average modeller needs to process in order to do flight planning as per TC specs. This is what drone pilots need to go through as well. Since mid-2019. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Welcome to Part IX.

    Is it bonkers? Yep.

I'm hopeful one day soon "traditional aviation modelling associations" will be carved out of the CARs and put into a special niche where those requirements are scaled down like the aircrafts that are flown.

MAAC is working to get some form of exemption back, one step at a time, getting back the trust from Transport Canada. Now is not a good time to suggest cutting corners.

Legal value aside, we are talking model flying. No TC inspector will ever issue an infraction or fine for fliers who follow the intent of RPAS basic safety rules and common sense.
Our legal system would throw out any case that gets challenged showing proper intent from the operator.

    Also
Weather info…is it really necessary to have high level graphical aviation weather maps? Why must a flight know the aviation airport weather for surrounding airports or weather stations when the pilot will only fly in local conditions for minutes at a time? The person can judge with his own senses and local clues like a wind sock, or common internet weather info. Personally I like AccuWeather Burlington hourly forecasts as the local wind is more accurate than reading Hamilton or YYZ weather. Plus we have a club weather station.
MAAC needs to simplify this whole transition as much as possible IMO or risk losing many fliers along the way.

    Previous post continued here…..
survey for each days flying is over the top? Perhaps the NAVdrone graphical depiction to know about airspace closures is better? Yes you can read all the local notams into the future and study maps and airport diagrams, but really is it of any benefit since you have no intention of flying to that location and are following the RPAS basic VLOS rules?
    Cheers Eric

Try to have the average modeller decode all the data in a 15-20 page RPASwilco survey and actually understand. Most would give up the hobby before really grasping the magnitude of data.
Then not be aware of provincial park restrictions that are not specified by RPASwilco.
They more you look, the more complicated it seems, however most fliers stick to one location with good local knowledge passed on from other members flying there.
The interpretation of CAR’s is well open to interpretation… I personally think overloading people with too much data isn’t going to work in improving safety. Like the forest fire notam that is not depicted graphically on RPASwilco yet is clearly visible on NAVdrone.
No one app seems to have it all or perhaps all is too much to ask?
If MAAC will only let members fly at designated sites, perhaps the whole site

FAA charts (which SkyVector uses) have no legal value in Canada (just for grins, check what that VFR chart looks like in Quebec's Lac-St-Jean - i.e. CYBG). Data is in the CWAS, which FltPpan doesn't have access to.

Yes you can see CCP5 in NAVDrone but it doesn't tell you much. What are the traffic patterns? Any report points for VFR traffic in the vicinity? Any specific DP or ODP associated with that aerodrome? Noise abatement procedures at specific times of the day that makes aircrafts take some unobvious paths? Right or Left traffic?

It works well if you know your environment, how the "system" works, and what TC expects from pilots. Personally I don't mind if you walk to the owner and ask about all the info that would normall be found in the CFS / CWAS.

But try to explain all those steps to the average model flyer.

Was a fun “Easter egg hunt”!
Thanks for that. Local fliers would be well aware of any seaplane activity in their proximity.

Ok, found it under sky vector, and located on NC VFR sectional chart on FlyPlan Go. CFS Water base. Not controlled airspace. Flying nearby allowed so long as you don’t interfere with air traffic. Same old VLOS rules and warning on NAVdrone.
It is similar to our local seaplane base near Hamilton. What is your point?
After all MAAC members can’t fly anywhere they haven’t give a specific SOC. All other RPAS fliers can fly under RPAS basic rules.

In the mean time, look up CCP5 with whatever "free" tool you have.
