Re: Top Flite Cessna 182

If I ever get it finished they want to take it to the State Wing convention for display.

Re: Top Flite Cessna 182

Great reason to go with that colour scheme. Go for it.

Re: Top Flite Cessna 182

I like it I already had decals made and the paint to go on it. I had two sons who were cadets in CAP and one of them and his wife are senior members (adult volunteer). He asked me to use the CAP livery, I did the samething to a SIG J3 Cub the kids got a kick out of it. If I could figure out how to do it I would post a picture of the Cub.

Indeed, it's there when I quote, but not in the actual reply.

Or if I copy and paste. Site does not like Flickr?

Thanks for the comment , Larry . Yes , that was pretty closely copied from
A European Cessna 182 , that I came across on-line . I added the blue trim line. I wanted something that was simple with a minimum of taping although I do like
Wavesdave 's paint scheme better as it is more modern looking.

As for C of G , mine balanced at about the middle or slightly back of that but not much. In any case , I like the way it flies so won't mess with it. I use. A Sig balancer that I find works great and use it for pretty much everything I have.

The second picture on my listing was just before my maiden flight and still had the aluminum main gear which was replaced with the fibreglass ARF version shortly after.

Re: Top Flite Cessna 182

It was tail heavy, and required a lot of lead in the nose, but we found that the recommended CG range seemed to have it very nose heavy, so as previously mentioned, removed an ounce at a time until the glide, stall and turn characteristics were as they should be.

Re: Top Flite Cessna 182

FYI . this is how I did my balance by moving the weight from inside the front batterycompartment to inside the front of the cowling. if I remember correctly I saved 6 oz in weight. quite a bit considering.

I installed a ply ring inside the cowl and used 4/40 socket head screws to bolt into the bulkhead blocks and that way nothing through the cowl sides for a cleaner install. Only thing is you don't really want to do cowl off and on a lot as a bit of the pain but worth it.

Flaps were great, dialed in a bit of elevator to go with the flaps, she handles very much like the real deal, side-slips were great, all flight regimes very much like the real deal. I've sold all but a pair of small electrics, getting ready for RV retirement, but I'm sure the new owner will enjoy.
Where did the CG end up when you were finished?
