Re: Suggestion needed for motor upgrade on F-27Q Stryker and UM Stryker-Preferably vi Funny... after seeing your Rifle post I started rummaging through RCC for other threads you'd created and found this old one that we'd exchanged posts on. Did you ever get the twin Q working? I wound up getting a new airframe and my Q lives on. Not a speed deamon, but not stock either. The same components as before the crash last year. Might try to hop it up at some point, but the motor mount is still the tricky part. Cheers, J |

Re: Suggestion needed for motor upgrade on F-27Q Stryker and UM Stryker-Preferably vi I actually always tape down my canopy as well, I've seen a few fly off but not on mine, but I won't take that chance, so I started taping it down after the first time I saw it fly off on another Stryker. Had a quick question, if I'm running two motors with two esc's on the stryker, can I use ONE larger battery or use two batteries separately? Also, the motors that I'm using need 60 amp ESC's, I only have one turnigy plush 60 amp, and I have another castle 70 amp, if I use these will the performance on each motor be exactly the same or should I get another 60 amp? Or maybe if I use one turnigy 60 amp and one turnigy 80 amp? |

Which prop did you use for this motor? I've gotten these two motors I plan on using but I'm not sure which prop to use: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=21975 http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=10985 Can someone suggest a prop size? I'm guessing because they're higher KV I should stick to 3S? I'd like to go 4S but i don't know if I should... |

Re: Suggestion needed for motor upgrade on F-27Q Stryker and UM Stryker-Preferably vi Wow.... lucky in one sense that you got your airframe back, bummer you lost a 4S battery I think maybe I got lucky too.... early on before I started experimenting with 4S my velcro started to wear down. So I pulled the plastic strapping up out of the foam, put in a new velcro strap and re-siliconed it back into the airframe. That combined with the fact that I always taped down my canopy (lost it a couple times) when running 4S may be why I never had the battery fly out. Oh, and I was super ---- about getting both straps down and tight before flight . J |

Re: Suggestion needed for motor upgrade on F-27Q Stryker and UM Stryker-Preferably vi Ok so I had a bit of an incident. I always make sure my batteries are strapped down good, but turns out the strap in the Stryker wasn't strong enough for a 4 cell, the whole strap assembly flew out of my Stryker when I tried to put it in to a flat spin, luckily the wind brought my Stryker back to me but the battery was lost, not a big deal as long as no one got hurt so I got lucky, very lucky but I CANNOT have that happen again!!... I'm going to velcro the crap out of the battery in the Stryker now, and put my own straps in that will go through the frame and out the other side to strap the battery to the frame itself. Has anyone EVER had this happen to them? I've never seen this... I was surprised... But I guess because it's not meant for a 4 cell, the strap wasn't either. |

All I've ever done is: - 60 Amp ESC + 4S 30C Gens Ace 2200mah + stock prop - 60 Amp ESC + 3S 30C 2200mah + 8x4" prop (Master Airscrew is most durable, but if you want speed and have balanced props to spare then APC give the best thrust since they are more rigid). I may have tried 4S and 8x4" combo, but can't remember. You can give it a go and just throttle up slowly while watching your wattmeter and the temp of your motor/esc. (By the way, this little number works great: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=8297 ) My poor Stryker still sits in 3 pieces. I have heated the foam as straight as I can get, but haven't reglued it yet... have to skewer it and I know it will never be as 'true' as before. Can't bring myself to spend the $80 (or whatever) for a new chunk of foam from PZ . Starting to build a delta out of $ store foam . J |

Re: Suggestion needed for motor upgrade on F-27Q Stryker and UM Stryker-Preferably vi You know what, I don't think this motor will work, I got the motor on the mount, but when trying to put the prop adapter on, it pushed the back part of the motor out, basically snapping the c clip that was holding it, and because I had to basically hammer it in, it mushroomed the top a bit so I can't get the spinner on, I'll have to take it to my bro-inlaws shop and cut off a bit at the edge, then cut off the excess around the wooden mount so it's just a square box and then screw it on the X-mount that will screw on to my Super Sonic speed demon... I mean, my stryker... BUT I also had an idea of making a thurst vectoring system on both ailerons, (or elevons lol) I've seen a youtube video of someone who did that, I'm just wondering which motors I could use for that, right now I have two Turnigy D3536 1450kv, I was going to put that in my Corsair but I put the SK3 3536 instead, so I have these two motors for any project and since I have a new Stryker sitting, I might as well use this one which was a crash revival, I'll do it first on this and see if it works well, then I'll do it to my fresh Stryker! The pics show where I plan on putting the motor, depending on if I use the 8X4 recommended prop for the motor, or a 7X5 so I can put the motors closer to the middle. I took pics with a 9 inch prop because I don't have an 8X4 until tomorrow, the bottom left corner shows the 7X5 prop, I'm hoping I can get away with that prop for this motor, since there will be two motors, it shouldn't have to work as hard as it usually does. If anyone has any ideas or and input I'd like to hear what you have to say! I've never attempted anything like this but, I've seen Strykers fly with this kind of set up and they're wild!! EDIT: I do realize the prop will go in to the elevon, I was thinking of just cutting away from the elevon to let the prop pass through... ALso, uberjay, I've seen the video of your Stryker, the one where it crashed, (poor thing...) I was wondering if you could tell me which set up you were running in there? Or which setup you're running now? I'd like to have ideas of which types of setups would get this Stryker going fast, I'm talking more than 200km/h!!! lol Maybe not that fast, but as fast as the air frame can handle!!! |

Re: Suggestion needed for motor upgrade on F-27Q Stryker and UM Stryker-Preferably vi Alright so I did a few upgrades and I'm REALLY happy with the results but I do have some upgrades that I am still going to try... FIrst, thanks to uberjay for suggesting the ESC upgrade, which I did, threw in a 4s with the stock prop, and she flies like she's gonna run away!! I'm really glad my 4s bats fit in the canopy nicely, I was scared I would have to modify it, but it fits nice and snug. I bought a Turnigy motor, "Turnigy 2836 Brushless EDF Motor 3200kv" link is below, and I had some trouble finding a way to mount it as turning the shaft around wasn't an option but I finally found a mount that I spotted at my LHS that would do the trick and I'm just making my final touches on it and I'm hoping this motor will get this Stryker going super sonic lol but your suggestion for the esc and 4s worked amazingly, I can't imagine what it'll do with this motor when I get it mounted!! As for the UM Stryker, motor is on it's way from HK but with the 300mah battery and 35c discharge, it went quite a bit faster, but not as fast as I want it. When the motor arrives, this will go super sonic as well lol Will report back with more results! Thanks again guys for all your suggestions, big help... http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=8138 |

Re: Suggestion needed for motor upgrade on F-27Q Stryker and UM Stryker-Preferably vi Yes it's definitely the Q version I have, I was wondering how you would put that cone shape motor right on the back of the Stryker lol but I do need suggestions as to which motor I could put on the Stryker to get it going fast, I can make my own mount, I've done it before when upgrading my Parkzone F4U Corsair to a Power 10 E-Flite... (Now that my local hobby shop has f4u-1a, time to add one more beast to my stable!!) Also, I managed to fit a 300mah eflite bat in to my um stryker, tight fit but I made it work and had to put it under the rear hatch and moved the receiver to the front where the battery usually is to compensate for CG... i'll fly it tonight and see how it goes, the weight is more but I'm hoping the C rating will compensate for that, lets see tonight... But I do still want a much faster motor for my UM Stryker... Can someone explain how I would go about choosing a motor? Which numbers matter and what they mean? Or if someone can go on hk's site and choose one for me? For the UM Stryker and his big brother F-27Q |
