Re: This has to be somebody's sick idea of a joke.

Would you believe that today, I actually found the C clip AND the set screw that I had lost? I walked into the laundry room which was about 20 feet from my work bench and caught a glimpse of something on the floor, sure enough, there was the C clip. I recently moved my work bench, so out of curiosity, I walked over there and spotted what looked like a speck of dirt, but nope, it was the set screw.

Just adding to the magnetic suggestions..

I get a lot of use out of my magnetizer. The entire shaft of he screwdriver becomes my storage space for small bits. It also holds screws perfectly in place to get them started easily.

Just demagnetize when done and toss it back in the toolbox.

I slide one of these magnetic trays under wherever I am working on, hopefully what ever metal falls gets caught in it, beats crawling all over the floor. The gray crater looking foam that comes in packages works great also, catches everything without bouncing out.

It is a good idea to keep a large and small magnet handy. My inside workshop is a converted bedroom and has grey carpet on the floor and small stuff just disappears.

Sorry , I guess I read the first line of your first posting differently.... Thanks for the clarification.

Blades are carbon fiber, it's the rotor hub that is all metal.

Not totally sure about helicopter metal blades as mentioned but I know metal aircraft blades are illegal. I would check that out with MAAC. Dangerous stuff when the body gets in the way !

Re: This has to be somebody's sick idea of a joke.

It was actually the only thing on the entire helicopter that I was a bit disappointed in. Everything else was nicely machined, snug fitting parts, but the original tail rotor consisted of the two molded plastic halves that sandwich around the bearings. Not that there was anything wrong with it, it just seemed a bit out of place compared to the all metal set.

It was fun getting the little e clips on, but I worked out a technique for that. The real fun part was trying to find out which end the allen key goes into the little black speck of dirt.... I mean set screw.

Wow!! That is small. Good luck, hope you never have to take it apart.

This has to be somebody's sick idea of a joke.

Over the winter, I picked up a set of all metal tail rotors for my GSR260Z helicopter. This is an 800 class gasser. All I can say is that my fingers are too fat for some of these pieces. That piece of dirt in my hand IS a setscrew. I don't think my tiny little MCPX BL has screws this small LOL.

I did drop a clip and a screw on the floor and actually found them though. It's a good thing they give you an extra clip and an extra setscrew, because I promptly lost them. Those tiny pieces really bounce. This must be some perverse joke that somebody at the design stage decided to send people like me crazy with.
