I don't pay any duty on orders from DDM either as it is not due on that type of item, don't pay any taxes if the orders are kept small also.

But you are right, the shipping is pretty steep and probably 50% of KM stuff is pretty much identical. Stuff like solid pieces of metal etc.

DDM is all well and good, quality products, great selection. The issue I have found is the cost, shipping charges, and duty as it crosses the border. Makes DDM pretty much out of reach if you're on a budget. 99% of all the up-grades I have on my 5B have all been from Aliexpress. Now before you go and freak out "OMFG!!!!!! Ordered from CHINA!!!!!!" I have saved nearly $3000.00 ordering from them. Yes they are KM parts, but are not that different from HPI parts. Priced out on DDM my 5B would have set me back nearly 5 grand. Yes that's $5000.00! I bash the crap outta my 5B, I run it on-road, and race it. I have run into no issues with the parts I got from China. Yes I wait a little longer than from the US, and no I do not order during the Chinese New Year, but I do not pay shipping charges or duty as it comes into Canada. I deal almost solely with the Golden Vehicle Import and Export Co. and they have excellent customer service. They pay attention to previous orders and will contact you if you make a mistake on your order before they fill it. I accidentally ordered 5T tyres for my 5B, they noticed that and suggested a suitable replacement. Honestly, I can say I am a customer for life. Sorry DDM, but shipping charges, duty fees, and more expensive products that are virtually identical have priced you out of my reach. The money I save through China, will allow me to call on OBR when it comes time to up-grade to the psychotic performance of a 9.4hp widowmaker. If you're made of money and don't mind spending it like water, by all means go with DDM, if you're on a budget check out GVI&E Co.
Just my opinion, others have theirs, no one is truly wrong.

Yeah, I think the little clips you are talking about are for wires to the lights. There are some brackets a bit higher on the cage where lights can be attached.

Just an update
I had not tried the body at the time.
I had to modify the body where it meets the roll gage. I had to clearance for the cross bar at the front of the cage. As the cage is higher it was hitting this piece. I don't know what the little clips r for (lights wiring maybe). I could have just cut those off and it would have been fine. I didn't want to hack on them incase they were needed. I'll get a pic soon

Yes just bolt the risers in and your done.
The cage sits in the riser than a clip just like stock. Tons more room
They do alter the side windows clearance (spacing around the window) a bit but not really noticed unless ur looking for it.

Right, I can see them on the front. So you just put them there? No other changes to the roll cage?

So you raise the roof rails up over the lid. Are they altered anywhere else?

Re: New HPI Baja 5B SS. What upgrades needed first?

Thanks guys. I look forward to starting it. If only the weather would cooperate.

The radio box is stock but the battery lid is the tall one from killer rc. . I'm running a 2s 6000mah lipo from them as well. Figured by the time I have all the lights and controller in I will need the room.
The batt, receiver and kill switch fit in the stock with a little room to spare.

It's the igloo front bumper super08.
It's a very stout bumper. It comes with a stainless steel reinforcing bar that I won't be using. In my view it's worthless as it's not attached to the bumper itself. It sits in a routered groove that is cut way too loose. It's also too short for the slot they cut. If they had epoxied it into the bumper it would serve a purpose but as it's made its a waste of time.

I'm still working on painting the body but it's not turning out as well as I would like. Good thing I'm doing the under tray first. Lol
