Re: Hinge disaster

The PA tarp tape is pretty thick. Myself , I would cut the hinges and rehinge. But if not a showpiece aircraft go with the suggestions. With nylon pinned hinges go with epoxy or any slow glue making sure the hinge pin is lubed. I use liquid Vaseline by heating it for luring. I am sure their are other options out there. Only use ca glue on fabric type hinging but am sure you are in the know now.

Garbage in my experience. Not worth the money if free.

Don't worry about it. Piper did the same thing on the J-2 and early J-3's. they just doped a piece of fabric along the gap.

Been there, done that. I'm fussy though, I would cut them out and re-do them, but that's just me.

A note about sealing with any type of film if I may...
Hold surface a little more than what you think would be the maximum deflection in flight till you have applied the film. Obviously the Monokote or tape if tight, would not allow the aileron to move.
Personally, I like to seal both sides of the gap because it keeps the dust and grime from accumulating.

Re: Hinge disaster

Hi guys, thanks for the replies it's greatly appreciated. I will definitely go the monokote route and seal the hinges, since they are very well glued and are never coming out. If anything the monokote will cover up my blunder. Thanks again.

Re: Hinge disaster

I see you have two rc planes, which usually means your fairly new to the hobby. If you don't own a covering iron to apply the strips of covering, use Blenderm tape. This rubberized tape can be found in various widths at your local pharmacy.

Lesson learned here: Attention to detail saves time and money!

Monokote, Ultracote, Blenderm surgical tape - only need to seal one side.

Slow flying cub the gap is not going to affect the aerodynamics or trim very much at all. You should be ok
