That is an interesting option. It works provided you dont fry your output transistor: Caveat Emptor

How much power does a Lipo have? 2200? 2600? I fly with Sanyo 2700 NiMh. Just as much power as the Lipo without the hazards of the Lipo.

New radios that have circuitry built into the radio for Lipo is OK, since it has a voltage regulator to handle the higher voltage of the Lipo, an automatic shutoff at 9V and built in Lipo charging circuit.

If it is an older radio, you have to keep pulling the battery out of the case to charge, because you cant charge it through the charging port like you would with a NiCd or NiMh battery. If you are absent minded and accidentally plug in a Nimh/Nicad charger into the charge port, the result is a guaranteed fire. Also, if you leave your radio on(all but the new ones, that is..) on, you will ruin the Lipo .

Personally, I will stick to NiMh.

Yes, iIf done correctly. Remember, this is your link to the aircraft. If it fails, you lose your plane/heli.

IMHO, No, its not worth it. Its a lot easier to just buy the correct pack....

If you have the correct plug, soldering skills and access to some heat shrink sleeve it is a relatively easy conversion. I dumped the piddly stock 600MAh batteries in both 8UHPS transmitters and upped them to 2500MAh by building packs from tabbed cells purchased at the Toledo show. At least now I can count on far more than the 30-45 minutes before things drop off. Your flat pack already has the advantage of tabbed cells and one concern would be cell orientation so the tabs line up and are not under stress. In some cases you can cut the tabs in the middle and solder on leads to cross the distance.

Only problem I found with my Futabas is even the thickness of the heat shrink can sometimes make installing the battery cover difficult.

Convert flat pack to square

I recently upgraded from 72 MHz to 2.4 GHz. I upgraded the 8C 9.6V flat pack on the 72 MHz radio and would like to use it with the 2.4 GHz, but it takes a square pack.

So, a few questions:

- Can a pack be converted from flat to square?
- Is it safe?
- Is it worth the trouble?

Cheers.
