Re: Regarding flight sims

I am a newb at this. I purchased an MCX2 then 120SR, then MSR, then 450 3D. My wife got me an MCPXv2 and I wish I would have gone from the MCX2 to that. With all the money spent in between that would have covered a lt of spare parts. It has been fun and exciting all the way. I love the MSR for indoors. don't like my 120 SR at all. Was told not to get the MSRx. The MSR can still be purchased new if you want it. I think you will like the MCPXv2. Just don't try and fly it indoors. The wife will yell at you and the cat....well who cares about the cat. Good luck.

Re: Regarding flight sims

Not really hiccups per se... The differences as far as I know:

The original DX7: No throttle curve for airplanes
DX7 SE: No trainer port, 2048 resolution where the original had 1024.
DX7s: Latest and greatest. Adds telemetry and DSMX support.

The first two had a different case than the latest iteration. The new one uses a case like the DX8 - which I don't like. The older ones shared the same (or similar anyway) case as the JR X9503. I liked the feel of that one a lot better. As a result I wouldn't buy the newer iterations (nothing wrong with them, just I personally wouldn't).

There may be more differences, but those are the main ones afaik.

I feel I should add, there are three versions of the DX7
The DX7, DX7se and the DX7S

The 7S is the latest, and from what I understand the best of the 3 versions. I may be wrong but from what i understand, as good as the perivous 2 were, there were a few lil hiccups in those versions that the 7S addressed nicely.

I am with you on that.

I just got me a DX8 at Christmas, but when I finished up my 5503GX this weekend, I opted to use my DX7 with it.

Why? I dunno.
Maybe it was the comfort and the familiarity?
Maybe it was the comfort level in the reliability of this radio? (had all 20 slots full, so you know I used it A LOT)
Maybe it was the familiarity of the the switches used for heli flight with this radio (as opposed to the slightly different locations of some switches on the 8, particularly the "finger-reach" for the throttle hold on the DX7 when compared to the DX

Heli flew flawlessly.

Ya.. DX 7 is a great radio

I'm using a DX7 for all of my helis and feel no need to upgrade. It's a fine transmitter.

Re: Regarding flight sims

I'm with Edwii.. The original DX7 made me happy for about 4 years before I thought about upgrading. I probably still wouldn't have if I didn't start getting into giant scale airplanes. The only thing lacking in the DX7 is a lot of the mixing jiggery pokery for airplanes. If you're flying helis, you don't need a lot of it and what's in the DX7 is plenty.

I wouldn't do the DX6 personally. It's just lacking a little on the features, and feels toyish imo. While the 6i would certainly serve it's purpose for now, I suspect you'd be looking to upgrade before too long.

If you want a radio that won't need to be upgraded for a few years the 7's the ticket.

One other question. Is there a big difference between tx's like the dx6,7, or 8? Especially for a guy like me, who is just getting started and probably won't fly a 400 class or higher for at least a year? What I am asking is: should I spend the extra money on the 8, or just go for the 6?
I went over the this big debate for a long time before i settled on a DX7S, and if you do what I did you can get one with out the receiver )you wont need for a long time/ever)for $230 shipped (if you contact the ebay seller i did*just ask*)

What one person told me is as long as I am just flying heli's I wont need anything more then the 7S, the biggest perks i enjoy most with the 7s over the 6i, is the built in recharger, the SD card slot for sharing model profiles over the internet, the bearing gimbles, and the larger screen is nice too, I found it well worth the extra $70 over the 6i. the 8 being quite a bit more, I dont think you will make use of anything that the 8 has that the 7s doesn't (in the helicopter world)

Re: Regarding flight sims

The 120sr will fly with a little wind. I'd say 10km/h+ you're going to be fighting like hell to keep it in one place though.

That said, the mcpx, despite it's size will take just about any wind you throw at it because it's collective pitch. Honestly, if you're looking for an outside flier I'd go the mcpx route instead of the 120sr. With the 120sr you'll be perpetually waiting for the perfect windless day.

While the mcpx will be a little steeper of a learning curve, CP helis fly a lot better in wind than any FP. jmho.
