Re: CompARF New Rookie 3D / JetCentral Cheetah Good point Gary!! Over the next few flights I'm going to practice up high getting the nose up and dragging it around in the sky. I really thought that playing with this jet in high-alpha would be similar to the high-alph stuff we do with the prop'd aerobatic planes. After 10 flights, I've realized it's a whole different beast. Feels like starting from scratch again, LOL No different than entering the jet world for the first time or when we got into helis! Exciting - another really fun aspect to this great hobby. |

Re: CompARF New Rookie 3D / JetCentral Cheetah LOL! Thanks Ken - your videos are always awesome  I think this will be a very fun plane once I get it dialed in. So far there are a few changes needed.... 1) I've got everything as far back as possible and batteries are in turbine hatch with 4oz of lead near the TV and it is still a bit nose heavy 2) I have a few switches to rearrange since I actually like flying around with a little bit of canard movement. 3) I'm not liking how it is landing. Even with the airbrake down the full 80deg, I find I'm having to come in on idle to get it slow enough. I'd rather have more drag and come in with a bit of power. I will first try angling the rudders inward. Then experiment with crow (inside ail down and outside ail up a bit). If no luck there, I'll resort to having the canards drop 90deg per the instructions. |

Re: CompARF New Rookie 3D / JetCentral Cheetah I got a number of flights of this little monster today! Also had a great time with Peter A (love that L39 Peter!!). I moved the CG back a bit and got it trimmed out. It lands really nice but the airbrake is a must. It lands really slow with airbrake on but I forgot it on one landing and it's a missile, LOL. Also played with the thrust vectoring!! Super Cool. I don't think I've had as much fun with jets as I did today! The TV is too sensitive at neutral so I will put a little expo in it for next flights! Trying to hover it right now is like trying to balance a pin on your finger, LOL. I think I need to move CG back a bit more and then go and have fun! One thing I love is the smoke!!! Very, very dense and consistent!! I think Peter got some little video clippets of some horsing around

Re: CompARF New Rookie 3D / JetCentral Cheetah Sorry Guys... a busy night here Got the Maiden under my belt successfully. Sorry - no video. Unfortunately I didn't get to play with the canards or thrust vectoring... both stayed locked, LOL. It was a little tricky, since the nozzle pointed slightly down in it's locked position so it wanted to dive pretty good. Unfortunately I didn't have the nozzle on a trim lever. So I flew around a bit and got the feel of it but had to pull back the entire time. Landing was pretty hot because I wasn't sure how it'd react at slow speeds with the nozzle pushing down. But all went well. Tuesday AM I'm heading out to Flying Tigers with Peter A and will get a few more flights on it and will trim out the nozzle center positions.
