Re: UHS Noorduyn Norseman build

Ok - as my favorite radio personality Paul Harvey used to say " and now you know the rest of the story". Finished the plane except for a few more decals, weighing and balancing. It's not completely to scale with a big screw up on my part with the horizontal stab and elevator. Didn't notice it until I started to cover it. Too late now. Not happy with my trimming job but if I don't quit now I'll take a hammer to it. On to my next build - a 1/4 scale Bud Nosen Aeronica Champ. A few more pics before I close the page on this challenging but educational build.

Re: UHS Noorduyn Norseman build

Hi Bill,

A very dear friend of mine has built the 12 foot UVH beaver in the RCMP colours. He has super detailed it to the ninth degree! The build is so well done that he even took the time to detail the rivets into the fuselage one at a time ever so painstakingly that they look real! The plane has never flown and the sad thing is that he does not fly anymore. He offered me the plane but I had to decline due to size! Sometimes I think I should reconsider because it's so nice......... but I'll need a bigger car! Michel

Re: UHS Noorduyn Norseman build -Update #12

Hi Michel - " a somewhat difficult building kit to finish" has to be the best understatement so far this year . Because the bulkheads are recessed you can only use the longnitudinal (sp) stringers as attachment points and as the flat surfaces are not all at the same height it becomes a real crapshoot with lots of voids and nowhere to adhere to. This is really going to be a standoff (a long ways away) model for looks. A few more pics. I put in 2 hatches, the top one for battery changes (6s 5000Mah) so I can get both hands inside, and the bottom hatch for ESC changes. The yellow and black of the 1950s Beaver, Norseman and single Otter of the Dept. Lands and Forests, Air Service Division (long before the MNR) is my favorite and what I'm most familiar with. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

I did incorporate the flaps, it's well worth the effort. I like you choice on the covering colours. I had mine representing the Canadian Airforce from the sixties. Silver, white and red.

Re: UHS Noorduyn Norseman build

Thanks Nathan. Actually we were there at the Museum in the 1st week of November and I took tons of pictures of the Norseman and the Beaver they have on exhibit. I flew in that Beaver when I was a kid and it was flying out of the Twin Lakes float plane base at Nakina. My Dad was the Game Warden and he would take me on his aerial patrols. Ed Hall was the pilot and retired in the Lakehead. I still have the pictures my Dad took of the water bags on the floats when they were first experimenting with fighting fires by air. They made quite a hole in the ground when they hit. This is a real nostalgia trip for me. I'd like to see pictures of your planes. A PM is coming your way. Take care.

Re: UHS Noorduyn Norseman build - update #11

Now for the clothing chapter. Yes I know but it's a deliberate typo. Started with the front end, mud flaps are next then up and back to the tail feathers. I'm waiting for some long servo arms that I ordered in early December but I think they got caught in the Xmas frenzy. Hopefully next week. A few more pics.

Re: UHS Noorduyn Norseman build- Update #10

Been slacking off lately as this UHS kit can be very frustrating at times and some days I just don't want to touch it. Whining mode off
Finally finished wing covering in 1950s Lands and Forest's colours. Call sign lettering and high vis stripes not on yet. Not looking forward to the fuselage with all its contours - concave/convex and some angles that don't even have a name
All of the cowling and upper fuselage under/inside the windshield will be painted matt black. About 1/2 down the fuse side the yellow will start and continue aft. Included a Beaver pic to give you a rough idea. Merry Christmas everyone and have a great new year.

The wing sheet is in a bit better shape.. you notice in the 3rd pic that the wings have two different cord's,, about half inch differance.. the narrow one is accually the wrong cord..

There is enough left that I can make templets if need be.. since I don't build on plans.. I do everything on jigs and just use the paper for a guide.. I just need to see the blank missing areas.. that is why a digital copy would work for me ..

the only tool I really need..
