Re: Hang them all

Here is a perfect example. I just received this reply to a question I posed on another forum.

"Real quick, info-light - my experience:

Fans - running after engine is off. Later : dead battery. Work-around : disconnect battery negative cable. Lots of brain things - then, new radiator/sensor/sender I think. But I don't think the relay was problem.

This ^^^ is a thing. I think."

I appreciate the guy taking the time to help me out but not sure what he said...

The irony in this is that in one sentence you're up in arms about my comments on proper grammar and a couple later you're stating how screwed we are when the younger generations aren't able to think for themselves. Is that not reason enough to agree that we should be trying to hold people to a higher standard and expect a decent level of literacy?

Thanks for bringing up the "F bomb" issue Jeremy! I too stopped at a flying field out in BC last summer with my son and we got into conversation with a really nice guy there. And as you said every third word was the "F" one, I looked over at my son and he seemed to be taking it ok so we visited a bit before we left. On the way out though, we had a conversation about trying to understand why a nice guy like that would want to sound like a jerk!
The same applies here, why would perfectly intelligent guys want to come across on this forum like 3rd graders?
Should you make it out here in the future shoot me a message. Our field has a pretty good group of guys. They drop the f bomb too but they seem to curb it when there are kids around.

This is not the first thread on this subject on RCC I have participated in and the reactions are always split. I don't read all the posts on this site but I believe it to be worthwhile the effort as I have noticed a marked change in the quality of the posts of some people since the last time it was brought up. Good on you guys!

Before we had spell check and typed everything we had to know how to spell and if we couldn't spell a word we used the dictionary. Beyond that, what is the average age of a member on this RC forum? I would guess average age is mid to late 30's probably. A generation that really doesn't fit that excuse. If people spent the same amount of time proof reading as they do making excuses for the mistakes there would be far less mistakes.

In stashes we spend a in auto coercive to form organ send table d for us becaus we don't both and to make sure the are correct in the fist a a end.

(Instead we expect auto correct to form our sentences for us because we don't bother to make sure they are correct in the first place. )

I look at it this way, I run my own business. I get people sending me resumes from time to time and even though I am not in a position to hire anyone I do look through them. When I see a resume with spelling errors or poor grammar I am far less likely to consider that person. Now as some have pointed out there are those with legitimate learning disabilities and I sympathize with those people. I even know a few people with learning disabilities, I don't look down on them for it. But in their case, when they are looking for jobs as well they will have a professional resume done or at least have somebody proof read it.

Now what does a resume have to do with an RC forum? Nothing really except that being lazy on a forum with spelling and grammar becomes habit that can often transfer into other real world situations such as writing a resume.

Again, it's only my opinion so take it as you will. However, I see nothing wrong with hoping for (and perhaps it is wishful thinking) a higher caliber of literacy in a country with a strong educational system.

Just my opinion. Or JMO for those who prefer text talk

Re: Hang them all

I can overlook a lot of things, but how much effort does it take to hit the shift key at least once per sentence?

I was a moderator on a web site for a couple years, one thing I discovered is that if someone acts a certain way on the web, the likelihood of them acting that way one-on-one is pretty darn high.
