Re: Gyros

For three of my heli's I use a DX7. I also use a DX6 (T-Rex) and an older 72MHZ JR computer 6 (Hirobo Sceado) just to see if I could make it work! The new radios are simply better. Have fun.

Re: Gyros

I'm glad to hear your JR G270 is working out on your 450! I'm sure it'll work just as well on my 500.

As for radios, I'm using a DX7. It's got a better heli setup side than plane side. Some guys actually use the heli side to program their plane setups so that they can use the throttle curve, which isn't present for the plane programming on that radio. I'm sure it'll do the trick.

Luckily, I have a good number of experienced heli guys to get help from. One guy has been flying helis probably as long as I've been alive.

Re: Gyros

I Fly 3 x Futaba GY401's great! Kinetic .50, MD530-Raptor .30, X-Cell .60.
1x HK401 drifts but for $14.00 okay. Needed mods before flight. Not so okay.
1x No name hh from China $10.00 okay. Second T-rex 450.
1 x JR G270 heading hold on T-Rex 450 beautiful and easy to set up.
I have found that Gyros with remote gain are so muh easier to deal with but make sure your radio can handle remote gain. Read, Read, Read and understand how to set up the features and you will do well with name brand. Instructions that come with gyros are sometimes hard to understand. Once you have one in hand look up the forums and ask questions. Some people are good at making set up instructions simpler than the manufacturer! Make life easy on yourself and get a good radio with the functions that make heli setup easy and then familiarize yourself with all functions. Most good modellers at a club will help out. Watch for experts who are rarely an expert at anything! Good luck!

Re: Gyros

Let's get back to the topic.

I have tried in order:

Telebee from HK: ok, but pod setup, and hard to trim. Does basic function, but I always hesitate when flying with it. I believe this is older technology (piezo).

JR770 3D: what a difference. Very fast pro with the JR servo that comes in a kit. Super stable, but you'd better have a large heli (500 +) and need for that extra control. Found it to be an overkill for light 3D.

HK 401B: Figures I should try it for $13.99. Very loose tail. Keeps wandering to the left. Can't get a stable hold in a hover. I had one that failed on me. Wouldn't keep HH mode (light would begin flashing. If you get one, you have to open it up and hot glue the connections and put a bit of foam inside to reduce vibrations. I still fly a 450 with it, no 3D. I bought 3, and i still have a spare, just in case

GP780: Came with my Trex 450 Sport combo, and really liked the servo. Great hold, as much 3D as I can manage. I like it so much that I bought another one on eBay (bid was $72.99) for my 500. Great tail hold. I don't have to correct. Very easy to setup. I didn't have to read the manual. Servo travel is setup by moving the stick right and left until the limits are reached. Button on the gyro to enable the setup. For the price, this is the best value I have found.

I'm happy to read some good feedback on the Spartan brand. I have seen those around on the net, lots on eBay, but not much as far as which model is good for the money.

Thanks all for your input on this thread.

Re: Gyros

'Cause you guys seem to know what your talking
about, with all that experience. One fellow has more
helis than I got tools. So I gotta be carefull what I say.
I feel like I'm one of the new kids on this site and of course
I am.

Re: Gyros

May I ......
I have a 450 Al-Cop-XI clone, had a Telebee from a HBK2,
clone 401 and now have a GY401. Its my first build, first
summer flying. If I didn't have the GY on the tail, probably
would have crashed, 'cause I droped it more than once and
a good tail hold helped me a lot in bringing it back safely.
Can't say the same for the bottom of my pants, no HH there.
