Re: piggy backing a glider

We did a few more flights with the cradle this fall. A little bit of negitive incedence did help the pitching up issue but I think next time I would make the cradle a fair bit shorter. That would help too.
The quality of this video is a bit better but we still have lots of room to improve.

Dale, like the mouse that just came up from the wine cellar said "Now bring on the cats!" Anytime buddy!

Jean, yes it pitches up more than I expected as you can see in the video. On the second try I was ready for it & we had a nice smooth climb out. Didn't get to experiment with incedence changes or C of G changes as the wind was coming up & the fingers were getting cold.

Climb rate would be better without the floats but we were at release height in about 20 seconds. E Flight Power 15, 11 X 5.5 on 4 cells.

Re: piggy backing a glider

Well since I started this tread a while back I have seen alot of interest and alot of good ideas.. so I thought I would pitch in my own now.. currently the airframe is under reconstruction and in the thread " what is on your workbench" so I can't duplicate it here.. but once the reconstruction is done and the work on the cradle and the glider starts then I will be moving it over here..

Might have to bring down a 2M for a ride.

It works guys!

Had 2 flights this morning as the wind was gaining steam. First flight was captured on an i phone & the video is on youtube. Sorry about the quality, it's a bit hard to see the release! Second flight was better but we missed the release competely! Calm on the ground but the wind was pretty stiff starting at about 2 poles high.

Re: piggy backing a glider

Thanks Jean! Yes I have been thinking about that. We made it a bit higher for clearance on the larger gliders with deeper fuselages.

I have also been thinking that to counter the pitching issue maybe move the glider ahead to shift the C of G forward? We will see...
