A few small touchups to do but it's as good as finished. Now I can move on to a couple other kits that have been gathering dust . . .

Over the last couple days I managed to finish covering the belly of the fuse and get the striping on. I've reinstalled the floats so I can run the flex cable for the float rudder. Now comes the fun of adjusting all the throws.

Looks good, I like the blue color. If you are making a bolt on wing should not be much of a problem to get at, just have to keep the leads long for the servos in the wing so you do not have to unplug them.

Re: Building a Piper J3 Cub .40

Back in my workshop again after all the plants and flowers have been moved outdoors. Father's Day means I get to spend all day in the shop . Hopefully I can finish this plane off and get her ready for a maiden flight. I built a servo tray yesterday and installed servos for the rudder and elevators. The area is nice & wide so I made an area for the receiver to be installed with velcro. Today I have to create an area for the battery. After much thought I am going to set it on a tray on the bottom of the fuse. Means I'll have to remove the wing to get at it but I don't see any other way .

I sold the Champ as it was too light for the winds out here at the lake. I had a used Cessna RTF last fall but piled that into a hay bale, so I fixed it and sold it. My smaller Cub has been maidened but was way underpowered. I played with installing a gear box but still not acceptable. Now I have a 35-36 Rimfire 1000kv sitting on my desk ready to install. Should have it ready to try this weekend.

I'm just waiting for the wife to get all her spring planting and stuff out of the solarium so I can turn it into a workshop again. It won't take much to finish the outside of the Cub. I'll access the battery by removing the wing, seeing as it has to come off to transport it to the field anyway. I have all the electronics except to the ESC which I will order shortly. It should be ready for a maiden on wheels before the end of the month. If all goes well I'll switch to floats.

Re: Building a Piper J3 Cub .40

I finally got around to doing a bit more work on my cub. I decided to finish wiring in the lights. That's when I realized I had installed the flashing beacon light on the belly too far back from the rear cockpit wall. I couldn't reach the light for servicing. So I had to build in a hatch, which means the light will never burn out now - Murphy's Law. Then I returned the plane to its hanger and took a picture at dusk with the lights on. The light on the bottom of the fuselage is a flashing beacon.
