Re: Aircraft tow tug

First towing test of the tug with Constellation in summer of 2013.
All power was produced by the tug, none for the aircraft...Enjoy!

Re: Aircraft tow tug

Jay, I haven't been posting on this thread but my tug I's 80% complete. All I need to do is fiberglass the custom body I made for it and paint, add details to it. I've towed both Constellation and giant Concorde with it few times already, does the job great, I may change pinion gear in future to slow it down a bit more but other then that, I'm very happy with the results.

Re: Aircraft tow tug

This happened 2-1/2 months ago, now it's on Youtube for you all to see.
Major credit goes to my friend Calvin Damsted for making the functional chassie of this tug.

Re: Aircraft tow tug

Towbar is now completely built and ready for it's first test!
It still needs to be painted that I will do at later date...

Tug and bar are hooked up to the aircraft plus showing you close up of the both hookups (Tug and Bar)

Re: Aircraft tow tug

Back on the Tug again as Concorde can also be towed around now.

Started making the hitch bracket last night for back side of the tug, I used brass strip to make this by drilling couple holes in the differential/motor frame of the tug, then I made a box on the upper flat surface of the tug's base from the same strip. Once box was make, a hole was drilled to secure both bottom of the box with the same brass strip at the bottom of the tug's body by securing both with the nut and bolt. Another hole was made on the outer face of the base and a HPI hitch was screwed on there.

Towbar is also in making, I used 11/32' x 12" brass tube to make this, btw there will be 2 towbars made at different lengths, one for Concorde and other for the Connie. First one is for the Concorde. I used ball end links also from HPI that fits on the hitches and glued then inside the of the tube's both ends. Couple hold pins will be made and placed to join ball end links with hitches with these pins while towing is being done.

You will see couple pics of towbar placed in between tug and the strut, well it was placed to see the length of the bar as there were NO hitches on either the tug or the dummy strut...

Re: Aircraft tow tug

Today is that ultimate day when truth will emerge as how this tug was designed and build!. At some point today, tug will actually be towing the Constellation out on the road with a rope......Stay tuned for first initial pictures and a video.....

Re: Aircraft tow tug

Here are few current stage pics...

In Pic 2 you will see increased ground clearance. Body was slightly lifted from original position, presently it's 1mm above the chassis, this give ground clearance of 3/4" at the center point of this tractor tug...
