Re: Best air compressor for under $150? Picking a compressor just by price may go poorly. An air brush doesn't require a lot of volume to work well & the ones I've used over the years didn't require a very high pressure either. Before I had a compressor I used over inflated tires as my air source & they worked rather well. Things I'd shop for are relatively quiet operation if it's going to be in the room you'll paint in, and a decent sized tank. Bigger is better, but it doesn't have to be large. The more the motor runs the hotter the air gets, and if the air is hot the moisture in it doesn't condense & stay in the tank, so you get water droplets at the gun. That might not be an issue in small projects but eventually we all move up in what we want to do so maybe a touch up style gun will be next. I use them a lot, and again they don't need a lot of volume but they do need a steady pressure & dry air. A $20 touch up gun could be your next step so consider it's requirements too. |

Re: Best air compressor for under $150? The one above is pretty good but not in the price range mentioned. The Hyundai would likely be ok if you check the requirements of the airbrush or gun. .4 cu. ft. per min. @ 90 psi isn't much. An airbrush would only go to about 40 -50 psi so would likely get 1 cu ft / min. The tools usually say on the package what is needed. It is pretty good for the money I think. and a nail gun, air gun etc. |

The oil free compressor design is ideal for painting. I would hesitate to use it for anything big as continuously running the motor/compressor will overheat and damage it. See details here: http://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/hyundai-...ir+compressor# |

Re: Best air compressor for under $150? I think this is a bit late, but I noticed Walmart had a little 2 gallon compressor for about $80. It would be ok for an airbrush and comes with a brad nail gun or something included. I think I threw the flyer out already so I have no details. It was a Hyundai brand. When I was a kid I bought a little 1/16th hp diaphram compressor for my airbrush and it came with a one quart spray gun. In a few years I got a car and tried it and it worked fairly good if the paint was thinned out a fair bit. It was a Bleederless or bleeder type, I forget which is which. The one that pressurises the can. Then I got a 2 hp 11 gallon one for air tools and better guns etc. It is pretty good but still is marginal for serious paint guns and air ratchets. Any bigger needs 220 volts. I like the paint guns with the paint pots on top as they take less air, and the airbrushes without the mixture control because they are easier to clean and simpler. The only adjustment is the thinner needed though. |

Re: Best air compressor for under $150? Unless you can't run a compressor because of noise issues it's probably not as practical but I already had a tank and regulator from my fishtank. But you can get a 10lb, 20lb (size of a scuba tank) or bigger CO2 tank from a local gas or welding supplier usually you buy it outright and then take it back for refills. You need gauges/regulator set from a welding gas company or home brew store and the adapters to hook it up to your airbrush. You don't need a moisture trap with CO2. On the plus side it's totally quiet, doesn't require electricity, doesn't overheat, run out of oil, or have the strict limitations on pressure or volume that most compressors have. They sell little spray can size airbrush propellant bottles but they really expensive unless your doing a really small job. I think the compressor you listed might be available at Lowes, mine was on sale at Canadian Tire for half price. http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows....jsp?locale=en I think it's pretty noisy but my contractor buddy thinks it's quiet. But it still doesn't have enough CFM's for a mini HVLP and with a 3 gallon tank it kicks on pretty often when I'm spraying. |

Re: Best air compressor for under $150? Colin, Did you find a Canadian retailer for the compressor which you linked to? So far I can only find them in the US. RB |
