Re: Hat-Cam with Sony Webbie HD

This clearly demonstrates the need of guns on our airplanes and the negative territorial attitude of the seagulls!!!

Cool videos and yes the pointer comes in handy.
Come to think of it, I think, I got this one in Wall-mart checkout line not Dollar store.

Yes, a keychain camera on baseball cap works very well too! Just need a little bit of velcro. Better particularly with ultra-micro airplanes. Here's some videos from this morning where some Seagulls tried to chew my poor Parkzone ultra-micro Mustang P-51D, in a local park near my place...

One seagull even came back 15 minutes later... They really don't like to share the same air space I guess.
(Sorry, a lady came by, so I had to keep the airplane farther aways for a while. Normally, the park is all mine that early in the morning!)

Here's another video of the Mustang (no seagulls, sorry), but where I keep it closer (one of the advantage of flying micro).

I absolutely like your laser pointer idea though!!! I think I will go to the dollar store, pick one up, and modify it with a remote switch. Thanks for the tip!

Re: Hat-Cam with Sony Webbie HD

Thanks for the compliment. Well, the problem is wind. Yes I am looking into spoilerons. I have Easy Glider Pro it is larger and slower but good only in low winds, in higher stuff it gets trashed around mostly tail and wing wagging (technical term )
Easy Star handles wind really well and with ailerons with a gyro it is quite steady and great for video even if a little fast sometimes, that is when 60fps comes in handy. My area always has some wind all year. To use spoilerons I will have to split the ailerons and use a second gyro, one for each side, but it is doable and I will not give up the gyro, just because it makes such a huge difference in the video.

Dan, looks like you have the landings down pat on that one in my opinion. If I were
going to go over rough terrain, I would probably choose something with a little
larger wingspan maybe so you could float a little more over the brush and trees
and use spoilers to land short. Just an idea.

Hat-Cam with Sony Webbie HD

Hey guys, as some of you know, I switched my Sony Webbie HD on my Easy Star AV for the GoPro Hero HD. So, I have made the Sony into a hat-cam since I never have any videos of my planes, mostly flying alone.
Sunday morning I went out to do some landing practice in a semi rough field getting ready for AV in poorly accessible sites I want to take some videos at, with very little landing space.
The hat cam is simple as the picture shows, I use a dollar store laser on it to make it easier to line it up on my head. Webbies takes nice videos, but the planes disappear in a distance fast, up close is better. I tried GoPro Hero but that one did not work as well at any distance at all with plane size objects. I am sure the key chain cameras or any other small camera can be used. The metal strap is important to keep heavier cameras steady without going to the helmets, too hot.,..
