Re: Too much time and too many wrecked planes

Seeing that this poor old DualSky XM3536CA-8 gets put on so many things, I thought maybe I should build a mount (pod) so I could transfer it from one thing to another.

Todays project, an airboat.

Re: Too much time and too many wrecked planes

Well today was a great day for flyin' the Blue Dolphin. A rough landing after a 11 minute flight (should say struggle) got me to thinkin'. I came back to the work bench and stripped the Eagle Tree, and FPV stuff off the airframe.

I attached a set of old Radian (taped the bottom to lessen the flex) and strapped them on. My thinkin; here was that the old Sig Riser airfoil may have been a lot of the issue with the way it previously flew.

Ummm, I was correct. I got a 13:31 second flight out of the thing. It does pitch up like a bugger if you aren't careful on the throttle, but flew well. On this flight I practiced landing and got that down to acceptable lookin' landings. But , with the mass and smaller (high loading) Radian wings, tip stalls are possible.

The motor box and tailfeather foam let go on the last landing. It could be repaired but seem heavy and brittle. I could cut it down (lessen the weight) and put stiffeners in it, but why!

On to the next victim!!!

Believe me, we huff & puff trying to push the stuff over the Rockies onto your side but it keeps turning to snow and falling before it gets to the top. It's crazy, I'm not complaining but I've never seen grass in my front yard this time of year like it is now.
I'm not too worried about Brent though, being an almost postie at one time he's probably used to rain, sleet & snow and would know how to cope
That bird appears to have a bit of water fowl in it

We only wish that there was moisture out here to worry about!

Ummm Alan, at least "I" fly!

ESCs, and Rx(s) don't like to be very wet, so your assumption is correct, I won't be flyin' in the Rain!!!!

Your the second person to day to mention my work bench. The other guy was havin' a cup of coffee at it. The kitchen table is a cheap one, and doesn't get much "work" done on it. I usually only do things that.require better light on there. See, I'm old and need good light for the fine work.

I have "re-finshed" that table once, I won't be doing it a second time. AND thats what my wife gets for leaving me home alone for too long!

Well, it's all done! (I think) The Eagle Tree stuff is a PITA. Only time will tell if its really worth it. Hard to believe there is 365 bucks worth of extra electronics (above and beyond the FPV stuff) on there, and you can only see about 10% of it!

Ok, Fire away!!!!

Well Alan, that depends entirely on what spare parts (re-cycled) are kickin' around. I do know my limits, as far as flyin' is concerned. I just celebrated the first anniversary of returning to the hobby. For me, Speed kills! I haven't developed the instinctive reflexes it takes to recover a high speed manuever. I am often reminded how important stick time is.

These home built things are an aid to understanding what makes a plane fly, and maybe even fly better. There is no pressure of doinkin' an expensive RTF/ARF.

I dunno Brent, I'd just start sticking in washers on the top motor mount screws. More on the left than on the right.

I don't know The last few visits to your thread has me shaking my head (in a good way). It's obvious I'm still lacking your enthusiasm for experimentaion, but perhaps it's infectious. I do have lots of balsa left over from my builds; all I need is a bit of imagination So what's next for you, now that you've mastered the washing machine, the kitchen sink???

Good work Brent
