Re: Starter problem

Get yourself a CTC Eliminator booster pack, 300A it is small enough to fit in a field box and about the width of a Tx. Thats what i use.

Re: Starter problem

Get yourself a motorcycle or ATV battery that is made to be used with a starter. A lot of those small sealed batteries will not put out the amps. I picked up a couple of geared starters off ebay and I made a very heavy start cone for my direct drive starter. You just wind it up and jam it on the engine ( probably not a good practice). It started my 26 cc gas engine no problem.

Re: Starter problem

I use 2 12v field box batt's wired together for 24v. Just make sure your eng is not hydro-locked.

Re: Starter problem

Check the battery voltage under load. Connect the voltmeter to the battery and watch the voltage as you try to start the motor. Typical voltage at the battery on even a good sealed gell cell 7.2 AH battery will drop to 8 - 10 volts under load.

Re: Starter problem

All great advice, to answer your question you need more volts. I run my cheap hobbico starter with 2, 3 cell life packs. About 22 volts at 3 amps and it started a DLE 30.
Also check the volts on the hanger 9 battery, should be almost if not just a tad over 13 volts when fully charged.

Re: Starter problem

Remove the plug, put fuel through the carb and spin it with the starter. Do this a couple of times to loosen the engine. LMK how this works for you. Phil

Re: Starter problem

Can you turn it over by hand?
What's the compression feel like?
How about with the glow plug removed?

That battery should be enough, unless you have a weak starter.....

Starter problem

Bought a float plane at the Toledo swap meet. Has an Max LA 65 blue cylinder head. Can't get it to turn over with my electric starter using a Hanger 9 72ah sealed battery. Do I need more amps ie 12v car battery?
