Re: DA Break In Change!

Confirm from DA; quote:

I would just run Redline Racing Oil at 40:1 from the start. For break-in, just tune the motor for optimal performance and go fly. It will break itself in as you fly.

Thanks,
Jeff

Interesting vid from Redline's Cameron Evans (see next entry). I guess I'll run 40:1 with their 2 stroke racing oil rather than use another brand at 100:1 (though it would be cheaper).

Re: DA Break In Change!

this has probably got more to do with EPA regulations than improved engine technology.

Re: DA Break In Change!

I ran my 120 on Stihl Ultra HP synthetic right from the get go.

After 85 flights and now at 50:1 she purrs like a kitten

Re: DA Break In Change!

I just picked-up some lawnboy ashless and was told by the dealer that Lawnboy will not be making the ashless any longer. The ashless 'break-in' oil is just more abrasive and speeds the break-in process. You can use synthetic right from the 'get-go' but it'll just take longer for everything to seat-in.

Re: DA Break In Change!

OK;
Clarification from the source;

"This is not entirely true. We still suggest Lawnboy for break in on everything except the 60 and 120. However, we only suggest Redline for break-in on our motors. We have not stated that you can use any synthetic for break in. If you want to use a synthetic for break in we suggest Redline Racing oil at 40:1.

Re: DA Break In Change!

Interesting. I did the same for my 170. So far one season in and no problems. I know a few pilots doing the same with no issues.

DA Break In Change!

I was just surfing the Flying Giants Site and I came accross this thread;

http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=67856

It would seem that DA has changed their thinking and they no longer recommend 30:1 break-in oil for 4 gallons of gas... the NEW thinking is to go strait to 50:1 synthetic oil.

Has anyone else heard of this... change?
