Re: Silly Flying

It's not quite finished Merv, I have decals to install and tinted windows.
Also set up throws and play with the CG a bit.
If you look close I lengthened the front end by 2" and built it much stronger than the original design.
I put 3 degrees downthrust in the firewall as well. With a 14oz tank flying just a bit over idle I should only need to fuel up about once a day.
I just rebuilt this motor as well and it will idle and run perfectly with no glow driver onboard.
The battery needs to go into the tail and maybe about 4oz of lead also.
Not sure of the final weight.....maybe 5lbs.

Old blue and red Supercoverite...that's it for that covering, it's all gone.

I'll post some more photos when it's all done.

Pretty nice Bee Bill! Even nicer engine!

Now... I'm thinkin'... yes I'm pretty sure... the tick over on that engine is slow enough... and if you timed it right, you could do touch & goes between prop strokes & not even mark the prop!

Just kiddin' Bill! Anyway, let us know how it flies. My money is on a healthy climb rate & a really great sound!

Three of us have built it now in this area & I have seen/been involved in all three attempts & I can assure you that it does not fly! On mine I added 1" to the fuse, 30% longer wing & dihedral but it was still uncontrollable.

Cute little devil though, I think I might put the 0.010 back in & hang it from the truck mirror!
The Micro Bee pops up every now and again. The Little Plane that Could basically doesn't. I built one and I could never get a flight out of it. It had a strange tendency to try and flip over on its back.
I used the lightest gear at the time. I have looked at it recently and maybe I will revisit the plane as lighter gear has become available and my knowledge of building small and light is better.

I have also build the Baby Bee (aka the Lady Bug) Great flyer. It usually can fly for about 35mins on a charge. The only issue I have had is if I place the battery too far forward the Bee develops a nasty tuck. I have almost put it into the ground a couple times because of this.

Anyway I had put up a fun little build thread for the Micro Bee. There is also one for the Baby Bee but I never finished the thread.
Enjoy

Thanks Bill! As for how it flies? Just like an old timer - untill you hit the sticks hard - then its like it's on steroids! I swear it loops & turns inside a 20 foot circle! Just a hoot! And you can do it low & close in because it travels so slow & recovers so quickly!

I would be the first one to your "Bee day" if we weren't so far apart! I have a magazine article here somewhere about just that sort of fun fly. About 30 or 40 Bees of all types & sizes! The event that really caught my eye was the one pole pylon race! What a great equalizer! Should work at any fun fly!

Re: Silly Flying

Yeah Merv it was a handfull for about 20 seconds.
Was definitely not the right airplane for my skill level at the time, it was exciting.

Re: Silly Flying

Have you test flown it yet Mike?

One of our club members built one from the kit a number of years back. He found it to be a bit of a "hand full" but he was an "add reinforcement where ever possible" kind of guy! Small planes are so-o sensitive to extra beef!
