Yea, and it would be nice to do it with someone who has experience.

Also... many of the off-the-shelf planes like Parkzone/e-flite/great planes/etc. are available in 'PNP' (Plug-aNd-Play) format. This usually means you add your own receiver (and often battery, etc.), but the servos and other electronics are already there.

I'm not 100% sure but I believe the JR(& Spektrum) and Futaba servo connectors /servos are compatible... at worst you might have to swap some pins' order in the connector which is really easy.

Anyway... if you're in the London area sometime ping me and we'll go flying.

Also, re. Transmitters, Hobbyking does sell a Turnigy (decent) name brand one which is not compatible with JR or Spektrum by default. I think (can't confirm) you can get a spektrum compatible module for it. That said, it is really inexpensive from around $53 +shipping (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...Firmware_.html). The downside is they're almost always backordered. But you could add an alert from the product page and get emailed when it's in stock.

That said, a used DX6i will probably get you more mileage / compatibility. Just look for one that includes or has been updated with, DSMX and is not on the recall list from Spektrum. Once you get the model information you can go to this link on Spektrum's site and click on the model link the next page will show you any product bulletins for that model. http://www.spektrumrc.com/Support/Manuals.aspx

If you go to hobbyking's search page and enter "simulator" you'll see a list of options.... all in the $5 to $20 range. If you have a transmitter already one of the $5/$6 USB cables will get you going. If you don't have a transmitter you _could_ look at their $15 one that includes a cheapo Tx (not recommended for real models), but it'd probably be best to get a Tx first. You can typically find used Spektrum DX6i's for around $100 here on RCC.

Anyway.... have fun and keep posting your progress.
