Re: Glow Fuel Pressure Regulators

They have them in stock. I just purchased and received a couple last week.

Re: Glow Fuel Pressure Regulators

Regarding the iron bay regulators I just received a reply from them saying they have no regulators in stock atm but have a production run in progress and they will be available again in a couple of weeks. seems they have a "reservation" list and manufacture a batch when there are enough orders to justify. they say they have replacement diaphragms in stock. My previous comments about thinking they were out of business seem to be incorrect. I was misinterpeting some posts on another forum about service problems etc some number of years ago.

Re: Glow Fuel Pressure Regulators

The perry pressure pump run off crankcase pressure had an adjustment that allowed the user to adjust the output pressure to be constant. Then the remaining adjustment was done at the carb...... In other words yes it was a pump and built in pressure regulator not just a pump.
Years ago they started with a built in pump into the engine backplate which worked very well with their pressure carb. But that meant for every engine there needed to be a different pump. They changed that to an external pump feeding off crankcase pressure to minimize costs. Worked ok with the standard engine carb but worked GREAT with the Perry pressure carb when set up correctly.

Re: Glow Fuel Pressure Regulators

Welcome back.

If you follow the standard rule of 1/2 fuel level in the tank even with the carb inlet fitting there should really be no problem unless you have the tank quite a distance away or some other problem with the engine or fuel system.

There are some other things to look for with 4-strokes that can cause fuel draw issues. What are you running?

Re: Glow Fuel Pressure Regulators

The Cline regulators are a pressure demand regulator like a scuba tank. The Perry are just pumps. The perry oscillating pump VP20 are made for four strokes. With all the Perry Pumps I use the Perry bypass circuit. After the pump you put in the line a "T" fitting about 1" from the carb and run the straight through part back to the tank and the "T" fitting to the carb. It makes the engine think the fuel tank is 1" from the carb. This requires you put an extra fitting in the tank for return fuel. I used this in my Seamaster with the tank in the fuse and the engine on a pylon.

Re: Glow Fuel Pressure Regulators

I know the iron bay site is still up but I saw numerous posts on other forums about people making orders and sending payment and never receiving product. The concensus seems to be they are out of business. I have never used a pump or regulator before and I'm just getting back into flying after over 10 years away from it. All I ever flew until now is 40 - 60 size planes but now I'm finding the larger four strokes could benefit from better fuel pressure regulation. I might end up trying a perry pump or oscilating regulator if I can't find anything similar to the cline/iron bay regulators which seem to have been quite popular a few years back. I guess the general decline in use of nitro engines did those companies in. But I'm getting some great deals on used engines .

Not sure about Cline, but Iron Bay still seems to list theirs:

Do you have news of them stopping production?

I have been looking at this for a while, as well.

Not only do I have the Perry pump setup in the F-15, (tank is back at the CofG) but that setup requires the correct carb for a 2-stroke. You also have the more important issue of adequate pulse source on a 4-stroke as drawing from the case vent is problematic, (you really want that vent unobstructed or unrestricted for proper case scavenging).

I have the shaker and diaphragm types and both have mounting rules that have to be followed that can create their own set of uglies. The shakers seem to work better with the more discreet and powerful vibrations from a 4-stroke so assume they were the solution to the prior listed problem.

As I plan to fit the Saito 100 in the Seawind and have the tank down in the fuse at the CofG a pump would be the only way to guarantee flow unless I run a check valve and reg ala' YS. As I normally run plastic tubing for all my fuel apps not a problem for length, but every connection would have to be accessible to ensure they are locked and not leaking.

What installation are you working with?

Glow Fuel Pressure Regulators

I am wondering if anyone knows of a diaphragm type fuel pressure regulator (other than perry) similar to the old cline or iron bay regulators which both seem to be discontinued. I know perry has an oscillating regulator which works on engine vibration but I'd rather have something that runs on crankcase pressure I think. And the perry pumps which use crank pressure look a little too bulky to fit in my models and seem to have a complicated fuel line arrangement. I'm looking to use with Saito 91/100/115 glow engines. Even some knock off from China might do. Thks. Greg
