Re: retrevial Boat

I glued the hook from hook-n-eye ladies garment sew on's to the top deck and upper hull at the front of the boat. Using a fishing rod with 4 to 12 lbs. test, I then cast over the boat and slowly reeled in until I caught the boat. The reason for different strength line was the weeds etc. The lighter the line the further the cast, as again the more weight the further the cast, until you loose accuracy. Ever repair a hull? NEVER SWIM FOR A BOAT1

Re: retrevial Boat

I have used a Hobbyzone Zigzag boat with good results on my 1/8 scale Miss Budweiser hydro . I switched to the Proboat Riptide watercraft because it had reverse and fit snugly under the rear wing which allowed good steering authority and it had plenty of power . Pretty much anything is better than swimming for it , that is NOT a good idea !

Re: retrevial Boat

thats great! I have a graupner jet drive tug boat that would work extremely well for retrieval. any local ponds that need a dedicated retrieval man!

Re: retrevial Boat

We made a retrieval out of Styrofoam, carved one end to fit the bow of a boat and the other end to fit the stern of the boat to be pushed and added stiffeners out of #9 wire also cut the stern an 1" or two wider, tied the foam to the push boat . It worked but do not go fast, as the boat being pushed turns a little in the cradle. The push boat was electric.

Re: retrevial Boat

I just ordered a small catamaran that I am going to put a PVC/Pool floaty retrieval rig on.

I cant tow the Silex backwards it will just swamp so I will need to push it in from the back. The PVC rig is going to be perfect and with a small catamaran offshore I can rig it so that it holds in-between the hulls.

Thanks for the advice

Re: retrevial Boat

You can try making PVC arms covered with pool noodle attached to the reef racer but I think you will be lacking power.
The best option for a small boat rescue would be attaching the reef racer to a fishing line and driving out and around snagging your boat then reeling them both back to shore.
Downside is you are bringing it in backwards which might swamp it.
A bigger boat would work better with "arms" to push in a boat forwards.

Here's a few of mine over the years.

Buddy twenty years ago I swam out for an r/c boat and got a cramp in the cold water , short story almost drown, I am a good swimmer. Get a boat or the fishing rod, don't swim for it.

retrevial Boat

I am running an Enforcer Silex Pro 48" with BHHanson Hornet motor but when it digs in while corning the motor stalls on me.

While I am working on the setup and tuning of the boat I am sure that it will be stranded quite often so I was thinking of picking up a cheap little boat like the Aquacraft Reef Racer 2 or something like that and modifying it to be a push boat to return the big boat.

My question is will one of these cheap little boats have enough go to push the silex back to the beach to save trying to have to cast a fishing rod out to it or go for a swim.

Any input would be great thanks. The main idea is to push from the stern as the silex sits really low in the water and pushing from the front will just drive the stern underwater.

Thanks
