Re: Collingwood Slope soaring Yeah... funny. I think it has to do with the 'major' body of water or something. If you zoom out it has Georgian Bay properly labelled. |

Re: Collingwood Slope soaring I found a neat map site on gc.ca's site: Click here to get to the topographical map: http://atlas.gc.ca/toporama/en/index.htmlOr, here for the Collingwood area: Collingwood area topology. You can play with the "Map Layers and Legends" settings to adjust what you want to see, etc. The best part was when I reduced the Theme's "Toporama Complete" and added in the Base(s) -> "Canada Base Map : Hillshading". Anyway, maybe others will find this interesting. Otherwise, it's here for my own reference . Cheers, J |

Re: Collingwood Slope soaring Will definitely do that Larry, I would really enjoy stopping by. If there is another good soaring day and others want to get together then I might consider another trip to the hill this fall. |

Re: Collingwood Slope soaring A few pics. Note the grass stuck on the DG wing from the landing, which was quite comical. I was doing a test landing pass and accidentally landed doing a double pirouette which should be on the Gopro. Second intentional landing was in the tunnel of death between the trees and chairlift. Its so hard the judge all the obstacles and the air is just chop suey in there, but I give myself an 8/10. |

Re: Collingwood Slope soaring Wow what a day! if I could only fly one day a year I sure would be content with a day like today. I arrived at the trail just before 10 am. They put big rocks at the trailhead so you can't drive up anymore. There is a sign just before the parking "Lorlee". It was very busy at the parking area. Hikers and bikers were coming and going like crazy. The trail in was bone dry compared to last time I went and they had fixed ( ? ) the latter part of the road/trail with fist sized rock. I had the Xtracycle loaded and then some. The front wheel was hard to hold down when I pushed it up the first hill. I made 2 trips and pedaled up it on the 2nd go. Lift was quite good, not epic and faded a bit towards late afternoon. I arrived with both the Moth and the DG 505 but had problems with the RX on the flying wing. The 2nd trip was to get a module for the back up rx. So I flew the DG for over an hour and it was great. I realized it makes way more flight noise than the Moth. After a new rx I tested on the west flying site so I could land in the tall grass. I had to finalise the CG as well. Then over to the steep launch site on the ridge I promptly pancaked it into the ground! Then I decided to try the CG back by sliding the rudder fin rearward in the slot and smacked it into the steep slope really hard. I thought my flying was done but the Super Ball in the nose did a great job! Finally re-launched and another hour plus flight and I was a happy camper. Back to the van around 4 and home before 8 pm. |

Re: Collingwood Slope soaring Yeah that was Reg's Alula on there, I'm still flying my original version. The Moth is such a fantastic plane for the slope, especially for the buck. I can fly it for hours and usually do! I might bring the 3.6m DG 505m again and perhaps the Sharon 4.2m. I still have yet to try the big FOX on that slope. Forecast still shows North winds for Saturday afternoon. Would be awesome to have a couple of wings in the air! I was contemplating camping out overnight.
