This week, tested the servos and pushrods. All the electronics appear to be working. Starting to cover.

Mounting the tail today. Used a string to make sure that the horizontal stab was square.

Installing the hinges today. This is my technique for not getting glue into the hinge.
I open up the slit with a shallow V cut. Then i put some CA into the V. Next push the hinge into the slot while keeping the hinge portion above the surface.
I find this pushes the glue into the slot and reduces the risk of a jammed hinge.

Re: Balsa USA SE5a build

It has been many years since my last post. Since then, I had a marriage breakdown and some low points of mental health. Good news is that I now have a new partner and a new outlook. I stopped building this model cold turkey and all that time it has sat in the basement mocking me. Now its time to finish her off. Even if it crashes on the maiden, at least I will have closed this chapter.
Where are we at in the build.
I have swapped out the gas engine for an electrical motor. I know its not as cool, but its so much easier to install and operate. The wings and tail are covered. Radio is starting to go in. Starting to paint using a little airbrush I got off Amazon.

Re: Balsa USA SE5a build

Balsa USA kits are well packaged with quality wood and hardware. The plans are easy to read and the instruction manuals are well thought out. Anyone with some building experience should be able to turn the box of sticks into a good flying model.
