Re: Polar 8 Project - CCGS Diefenbaker Thanks Rob! It is a slow process that ship, I keep getting distracted by other projects, including family. I did pick up all the necessary components to re-do the Cranes on the aft end for much better control and more reliable function. I have new motors that are ready to drop in as well. Lots to be done, but I have a couple other ships that need finishing first. Cheers! G-O |

Re: Polar 8 Project - CCGS Diefenbaker Griffon has just come out of dry-dock - I went over her from stem to stern and down to the depth of the engine room and saw the bad leak on the s/board drive 'stuffing box' that was the reason she went in. If you go onto the Griffon, her name is Jacqui. Keep posting re your Polar 8 project. |

Re: Polar 8 Project - CCGS Diefenbaker Thanks Spitball! The Griffon is a nice ol' ship, I did sail on her for a couple of months, There is a small chance i will be moving over to the Griffon this summer while the ship i am on is in Dry-Dock. The model has been a long project for sure, mostly because i only work on it occasionally, instead of all the time. I am hoping to make good progress this sumemr and maybe make it look much more finished!! Cheers and Happy New Years! G-O |

Re: Polar 8 Project - CCGS Diefenbaker Hi G-O, I'm passing this site on to my daughter who is at the College in Owen Sound and spent several months on the CCGS Griffon and it looks like she'll be serving an even longer stint on it again as soon as she ends this semester at the College. She's familiar with R/C of course and I think will be fascinated by your project. Good luck with it, it must have been a lot of hard work but the results look worth it - most impressive indeed - a labour of love obviously! |

Re: Polar 8 Project - CCGS Diefenbaker Hello Again all my modeling amigo's I ahve ordered some more components (deck fittings) mainly the deck stanchions and a few other small details, (ladders and teh such. But on reflection, I have advanced greatly in my abilities and have decided that maybe i should do a bit of a re-fit on the hull. So this summer, i hope to begin refurbishing the hull by stripping the paint off, re-fiberglassing below the water line to increase strength and fix some initial construction flaws. and then replace all teh bullwarks with some stronger, more detailed materials. Hopefully i can find the time for all that. The motors and ESC's have been functioning very well and engineering wise teh machinery is performing quite well! With any luck, I can have it looking far better by the end of summer! Hope everyone has had an excellent holiday season and was rewarded with gifts in the stocking instead of coal!! Cheers and happy holidays!! G-O |

Re: Polar 8 Project - CCGS Diefenbaker Thanks LoCo! The big one with the stripe is the CCGS Samuel Risley, my good friend is building that one, it is also an icebreaker. The Risley model is at 1:50 scale. The little one with the stripe if 1:100, and the same length as the Risley in real life. That one is the CCGS Leonard J Cowley. My Polar 8 icebreaker is 1:100 and was never built (sadly). It would have been operating solely in the Arctic. The day sail we had (pictured was a lot of fun. I want to get out and do this more often, but its a four hour drive for me to get to that pond! Cheers all G-O |
