One thing you might try is go to Princess Auto or the likes,CTC maybe, and get a set of machinists metal calipers, not the vernier type for very few dollars. A very versatile tool for many things.
sorry for spazzing out like this. but What part of limited funds do you not understand.? i asked for building help not "go buy a pair of something or other" ..... or did i not make myself clear on this that i wanna make a setup for the links? .... eeeeesh....... anyone else wanna tell me to go buy something that i cannot afford? you may do so now or you can maybe try to give me help and ideas on building such a rig, i am looking at something like the century one that is advertised for 30.+ dollars. but in inches not milimeters. any and all ideas will be taken into consideration.
thank you

Use a compass. The good ones come with a small distance ajustable wheel. ex.: staedtler, geotec are good brands.

lmao....
i know accuracy Moo. but when one cannot afford a 30.+ tool like most can in this hobby , one tends to think of ways to make that tool cheaper or out of materials that one has lying around. . not everyone is rich.
