Lol. It does sound like a name they'd give a pattern plane!

Seriously, I'm all for a group that will promote scale aerobatics. I've don't think I've ever had more fun competing than I have in IMAC. I think it would be great if more people were exposed to it, and CSAC seems to be the way to go.

I'd definitely be in for a $20 yearly membership.

The notion of branching away from IMAC, is really an entirely separate thing from the idea of CSAC.

That being said, there are those who have strong opinions [both for and against] regarding the possibility of branching off on our own from IMAC. Any decision made to do so, would be made by the MAAC SA Committee as a group, and not decided upon here on RCC.

From what I've read on this thread, it seems like a decent idea. However, I wouldn't want to see it become a branch away from IMAC. I do like the idea of promoting scale aerobatics in Canada, but I think we should still follow IMAC rules and guidelines for competition because it gives us a benchmark of comparison on a larger scale, if that makes sense.

Bump... It's been more than two years since this thread was active.

Are there any new / more thoughts on CSAC, given the recent developments concerning IMACs rule change proposals in the US?

rcpilot IMAC has grown alot in Australia, and they have their own association for scale aerobatics and they have memberships of $50 per year, 482 members. If anyone care to have a look into some details, here is the link;

isabel Dave, Lee, I like what you're saying.

Dave I don't think your post is a 'rant' at all, it is very constructive. The concrete examples of what would be covered by national funding (the nats; promotional travel costs) make perfect sense. That's the kind of info I was hoping to get. I think what started out sounding a bit abstract to the general audience, is getting fleshed out by these posts, and personally (for all it's worth; my experience in IMAC being limited compared to that of other posters) I really like the direction that it's going in.

Competing in both Quebec and Ontario, and seeing people from these regions come together at the Nats, following here the progress of IMAC in western & maritime regions, has provided for me a glimpse of what it could be if we took steps to establish a closer relationship coast to coast. I was browsing the western canada contests for this year and noticed a lot of neat ideas, like providing free entry to first-time basic pilots; this is just a small example of how exchange of ideas could serve our community. I think a lot of people from the experienced base in Ontario have provided uncountable hours to the regions who are starting up. It can't hurt to get together, that's for sure.

As this discussion progresses, I am heartened to see that the points that instinctually came to my mind, of making this an organization would serve across the board, using this to add, not replace, to what we have in IMAC, and defining a specific 'mission' or objective up front. I think this will help convince a maximum number of people to contribute. As I said, I like the direction this is taking, and I would contribute everything I can to such an effort.

Thanks for the time you are investing in developing & writing here about these ideas.
