Re: 2010 sequences and your plans?

Don't worry Brendan, we can keep each other company in the bottom ranks of Basic Today I was also dealing with a crosswind that made me drift in every maneuver. Sometimes it feels hopeless, except that I've seen so many others pull off those nice straight lines!

Slowly but surely we'll get there!

Re: 2010 sequences and your plans?

Well, I got my 50cc Yak in the air this morning. Talk about crooked lines. After a while they started to straighten out ..... a bit.

My coach says "practice, practice, and more practice" or I will be benched. Not sure what the benching really means and I don't want to find out.

My loops are more like eggs and my hammers more like a bird just after being shot. Half Cuban's are good but unfortunately there is no routine with ten of them in a row.

Keep it in the air and safe landings.

Finally got some good stick time on my plane, with things all setup properly. Boy do I need some practice! I don't think anything I did was straight Makes me glad these contests are about so much more than just the competition.

I'm planning to make that Seminar now. So I'll be there with radio and plane in hand ready to fine tune the bird! Got the engine leaned out tonight and was flying nice. Time to start practicing!

Have to say that AirDog is starting to look like an IMAC pilot We had a great morning with no wind, hot sun and free coffee (thanks Bob!). Got the 43% Extra in the air and have to say I had fuuuunnnn! Man the sound of that DA150 on a three blade and cans is awesome. Mostly you hear the prop hissing through the air.
Now we have three guys practicing routines and a fourth is just around the corner right Fred Looking forward to our Seminar next weekend (the 29th) and hopefully get lots of people who are sitting on the sidelines interested in realizing their potential and the potential of their radios and planes!

Re: 2010 sequences and your plans?

Jason, the key is the last part of your post.

"...start practicing (the) Basic sequences".

A group of us got out this morning and got in several great flights in the calm air. I worked primarily on hammers with my back up plane (Funtana 125 with a 26cc gas) and they are starting to look pretty good. My engine is not broken in yet either and is still running a bit rich but it is making enough power for good practice. Still a bit weak on the upline but it seems to be getting stronger with each flight.

Get out there, relax, and have fun.

Re: 2010 sequences and your plans?

Well the DLE "Instruction Sheet" doesn't really say much, and most of it is in chinese. However, I bought my engine from Jeff at Thunderbolt RC and he provides a manual. I checked that, he recommends 32:1 non synthetic for 3 gallons before switching to 45:1 synthetic. But I've also been following the DLE 30 thread on flying giants and people are doing all sorts of things on there. Including just running it at 32:1 all its life, starting out with synthetic, etc. So its hard to know what the "right" thing is for it.

This is my first gas engine, and so far despite trying to break it in just right, I seem to be doing everything wrong Ran it on the ground for a good 30-40 minutes (on the airframe at least) with improper mixtures no doubt...over tightened the spark plug by a good deal (seems I got out ok on that one, a new spark plug with a non flat crush washer looks like it solved a slight leaking issue I was having) and finally running the engine way too rich in the air. Hopefully I haven't done any permanent damage, but at least I'm learning and it was a relatively cheap engine!

Next time out I fully intended to lean the sucker out and start practicing my Basic sequences. At least the airplane makes me look better than I am!

Thats the new 78" Extreme Flight Extra 300. I'm running a DLE 30cc engine on it. Plane is about 12.5 lbs dry (just under). I started out with a 20x6 as a lot of guys seemed to like that prop on it. It makes the plane slow down real nice alright, but felt a bit too slow. Really cut down the planes glide. I'm using a 19x8 now and it seems like a better fit.

I've only got a gallon of fuel through the engine so far at 32:1 mixture. I've got another gallon premixed at that ratio. Once broken in, it calls for a 45:1 mixture. After I get through the second gallon of fuel, should I be good to switch to the lower oil mixture? The engine is running pretty rich as it is, from what I've been seeing I might have it too rich. This weekend I'll have to start to lean it out a bit.
What does DLE recomend for breakin? DA is about 5 gallons on 32:1 T 100:1 for rest of life. Again you can fly routines while breaking inengine. You don't have to get boered by flying circuits, practice the Basic Routine!

Its a great flying plane, I can't wait to finish breaking in the engine and get this thing trimmed out. My practice time before the Ottawa contest looks like its going to be a little low, as I don't want to push this engine till its properly broken in. But at least I've got something thats a decent size to fly now!
You don't have to go and baby a gas engine. They do not need to breakin like a glow.

Just go and fly so practicing should not be an issue other then weather and time. Were you down at Joe Nall? That looks like an Extreme Flight Extra 300

What size prop are you running on that 50cc?
